As per latest research reports published by Ooyala, more than 60% of all video plays will be on mobile devices within the first half of 2018. This represents the 6th back-to-back quarter where Mobile devices domainted all online video plays by more than half!
Latest Global Video Index noted that the use of mobile devices to view long-form video is continuing to grow ‘dramatically’. This is prominent predominately by consumption of short form clips by young viewers.
The avg time watch by a viewer for long form content grew by 77% on smartphones and 70% on Tablets in Q3'17.
Sports has been a key driver for mobile adaptation, with viewers preferring to watch the same on their phones. Ooyala's global study revealed that mobile devices and smartphones lead in online sports viewing, capturing nearly 58% of users. Smartphones drew the largest segment, more than 46%, while tablet users attracted more than 11%. Mobile accounted for nearly 63% of all Q3 sports-video plays, with viewing on smartphones above 50% and tablets at 12%. PC’s make up 35% of plays and connected TVs just less than 3%.
