When he had left our home in Mexico to come to the United States, he was still a young man.

After eight years of toiling on a Vermont dairy farm—sending money home so my siblings and I could go to school—his face looked weathered, worn, and tired.

When the money he sent wasn’t enough for me to finish school, I joined him in Vermont.

An hour after I arrived in his cramped and dilapidated one-room trailer, he excused himself to catch a few hours’ sleep before his second shift started and he had to work through the night.

My dad taught me how to milk cows.

I volunteered to help Migrant Justice survey nearly 200 dairy workers in Vermont—more than 10 percent of the estimated 1,500 immigrant farm workers who hold up the state’s famed dairy industry.

Increasing public-private funding and investments in dairy farming and technological advancements are further aiding the market growth. On the other hand, ongoing campaigns to save dairy animals from unethical herd management practices are expected to restrain the growth of this market during the forecast period. Along with this, the shortage of trained dairy professionals is further expected to challenge the growth of this market. Due to the pandemic, the demand for ‘out of home’ dairy products has reduced significantly, misbalanced supply and demand, and negatively impacted global farmgate milk prices. Such ongoing campaigns and government initiatives targeting large-scale factory dairy farming practices are creating hurdles for small/medium-sized dairy farms to increase their scale of operations.

Camel milk is often referred to as a complete meal since it has ample nutrients to sustain an individual throughout the day.

On account of this, it was used to support nomads and herders while traveling long distances in ancient times.

The dromedary camel is considered to be one of the most important livestock animals in semi-arid areas of the GCC region.

In recent years, camel dairy farming has evolved as an alternative to traditional dairy farming in the GCC region, as the latter requires large amounts of electricity and water for the maintenance of cattle.

The GCC camel dairy market has witnessed significant growth in the last few years, catalyzed by the health benefits of camel milk that are increasingly being recognized by the consumers.

It has garnered attention particularly among lactose-intolerant and diabetic people as it contains a lower amount of lactose and higher amount of insulin that is imminent for regulating type 1 diabetes.

The government could be forced to “manage the decline” of industries like car manufacturing and dairy farming in the event of a no-deal Brexit, two highly respected think-tanks have warned.

A “very, very large” number of sectors would feel the impact of trade barriers like tariffs and regulations if the UK leaves the EU without a deal, Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) deputy director Carl Emerson said on Monday.

Ministers would be forced to target support at industries that would suffer the most, and choose whether to manage their decline or help them navigate the initial shock in the belief that they could adapt and thrive.

Under a unilateral free trade approach backed by hard Brexiteers like David Davis, with zero tariffs on all imports, industries like dairy farming would all but disappear, the Institute for Government’s (IFG) chief economist Gemma Tetlow suggested.

The pair were responding to questions at a Westminster event about how the government might respond to the UK leaving the EU without a deal on March 29 and reverting to World Trade Organisation rules for trade.

The response would be multi-pronged, Emmerson said, with increased spending for certain departments like HM Revenue and Customs so it could manage the introduction of checks at borders.

Meat and milk production from cattle could one day be boosted, thanks to analysis of microbes in cows' stomachs.

The study paves the way for research to understand which types of microbe - such as bacteria - are best at helping cattle to extract energy from their food, experts say.

Researchers led by the University of Edinburgh's Roslin Institute and Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) focused on microbes found in a cow's rumen - the first of its four stomachs.

The rumen is home to diverse strains of microorganisms, such as bacteria, archaea and fungi, which help the animal to extract energy and nutrients from its food.

The team used an advanced technique called metagenomics, which involves analysing the genetic composition all of the microbes that exist within an organism, in this case a cow.

They studied samples of rumen gut contents from 43 cows and identified 913 diverse strains of microbes living in the rumen.

Over the past two weeks, word has begun to spread that Big Dairy is shelling out lawsuit dollars to American consumers of milk, yogurt, and other creamy products.

But while 'free' money is often sweet news by itself, the story behind this relatively slim settlement has a distinctly more sour and, for milk cows, far deadlier flavor.

As NPR reported Friday, a class-action lawsuit against the dairy industry's largest umbrella group has resulted in a $52 million settlement that's available to select consumers of its products.

Cooperatives Working Together CWT , whose members contribute about 70% of all U.S. milk, responded to a suit by animal rights activists that alleged price-fixing with a no-fault settlement package of cash and store credit worth just shy of 0.15% of the industry's annual haul.

The class-action suit was brought by lawyers with the animal rights group Compassion Over Killing, which, through the help of gallant general counsel Cheryl Leahy, "spends a lot of time trying to get the dairy industry to be nicer to cows," says NPR.

Several years back, Leahy caught wind of an industry practice during increasingly frequent hard times for price-per-gallon of launching herd buyout programs, in which arms of the CWT or affiliated National Milk Producers Federation offered to buy out smaller farms' milk cows to process them en masse for meat.

The increasing herd size of dairy farms and growing consumption of milk and dairy products are the primary growth drivers for the dairy herd management market.

Increasing public-private funding and investments in dairy farming and technological advancements are further aiding the market growth.

Globally, the outbreak of COVID-19 has caused significant disruptions to businesses and economic activities across the world, including the dairy market.

Due to the pandemic, the demand for ‘out of home’ dairy products has reduced significantly, misbalanced supply and demand, and negatively impacted global farmgate milk prices.

Still, a recovery is expected during the second half of this year.Due to the pandemic and the movement restrictions associated with it, the labor-intensive dairy industry has faced a production shortage as the majority of tasks in animal farms are performed by skilled laborers.

Globally, the herd size of dairy farms has increased significantly over the years.
