Cycling is a sport that is delightful, environmentally friendly and is one of the best exercises that you can do on a daily basis. When you’re cycling, you’re bound to get sweaty after 10 minutes of exertion and after that, the pretty clouds above you and the view you got so excited seeing, starts to grow bleak. Cycling is extremely fun and there are a lot of ways in which you can enhance your cycling session.

Nicholas Clark is a USAC licensed coach who has been a professional cyclist for over a decade and a half. He knows all the little and big things that make cycling such a celestial experience. Nicholas is one of those people you meet who have an inspiring outlook of the world because of all the fields of work that they have experienced and then found the passion for something. He works as a school instructor and a corrective exercise specialist. As of now, Nicholas owns ProBike FC and trains cyclists every day. Clark also happens to be a Retul certified bike fitter which is basically the usage of 3D motion videography.

He’s very well acquainted with the exasperating side of cycling and if you are a budding cyclist then here a couple of tips by Nicholas Clark that will surely enhance your cycling time:

1. Ride with your mates

You must have seen a group of cyclists together who are strolling through the roadside or street and they just look so good because instead of socializing, they’re all together doing something productive. It would be a lot more fun to ride together. You can engage in a conversation instead of fixating all your thoughts on the steering.

  1. Enjoy hills

The reasons to love hills exceed any perceived cons that someone who is probably grim could think of. Who doesn’t love hills? They are however not the most favorable for cyclists because of all the effort that they demand. However, hitting the hills regularly will boost leg strength and your cardiovascular fitness will skyrocket. You will just have to get past the part where your legs and lungs burn but don’t let that stop you from going faster.

Then when you finally reach the top of the hill, you are welcomed by a beautiful view and strong gusts of wind. The climb was exhausting but going back down the hill will be effortless, invigorating and rapid. The more hills you ride over, the more you will learn about the different kind of hills that are suitable for you. They give variety to your ride.

  1. Avoid the ‘bonk’

Sports nutrition doesn’t have to revolve around expensive food supplements like cereal bars, jam supplements or protein bars. The simplest way to stay hydrated and energized for those consistent 2 hour long rides is to get a carbohydrate drink. It’s recommended that you carry a little more food than you need.
Sports nutrition doesn’t have to mean eating expensive supplements; bananas, cereal bars and jam sandwiches all contain lots of easily absorbed carbohydrates, are convenient to carry and easy to eat.

  2. Structure your riding time to be a better cyclist

Making goals when you’re cycling will make you a better cyclist. Follow the SMART method which is an acronym for:
  • Specific,
  • Measurable,
  • Attainable,
  • Realistic
  • Time-specific

SMART will keep your goals in line, knows what your ambitions are composed of, and what time span you should be excelling within. Don’t be ashamed of how small or big your goal is.
