It is more than a week since political uncertainty in Karnataka has come to the fore and elected representatives of INC-JD(S) are in no hurry to restore governance.
Multiple instances in the past few days can be used as evidence to corroborate that the ruling government will go to any extent to hold undermine the Office of Governor and hold the State to ransom.
Political turmoil started in Karnataka after resignation of 15 JD(S) and Congress MLAs, since it was now incumbent upon the Kumaraswamy-led Government to prove its majority on the floor of the house.
After the Supreme Court Bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi permitted the 15 MLAs to bail themselves out of the trust-vote, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Dinesh Gundu Rao filed an application stating that the court’s order was in contravention with the Tenth Schedule (anti-defection law) of the Constitution.
Considering the adverse impact of an absentee Government on governance and day-to-day operations of the State, it was a pragmatic decision when Governor Vajubhai Vala set a deadline for INC-JD(S) to prove majority in the House.
After all, the State should not suffer due to a power struggle that has been brewing within the politicians for the past 14 months.
