DiDi, a Chinese ride-hailing service, has expanded into South Africa.
This new expansion comes after a successful pilot launch on March 1, 2021, in Gqeberha, South Africa.
More than 2 000 drivers have downloaded the app since then, allowing over 20 000 local residents to successfully use the app to go from point A to B.Here’s what the company’s website mentions during the launch:"DiDi South Africa understands the challenges communities and the transportation industry face with the evolution of urban mobility (rideshare) and as a result is committed to creating the freedom and convenience to go places, open up horizons and give access to new experiences through our platforms.
Dangerous zone notifications, which will automatically geo-block unsafe regions for vehicles, a safety toolkit for drivers and riders, driver background checks, and even passenger verification are among the safety features. It will also allow users to share the ride's live location with a third party, as well as start a recording of the journey if either of the parties feels insecure.
Many Uber users have discovered that once drivers learn the location of a journey, they cancel it.Didi's vaccination push began on September 27, 2021, in three provinces in South Africa.
Gauteng, Cape Town, and Gqeberha are all included.
