KIND LED K5 1000W LED Grow Light Review 2019

The Advantages of LED Grow Lights

Proper lighting is one of the most critical secrets to successful indoor gardening. The main lighting choices on the market today are fluorescents, HID, and LED.

There are incredible benefits that come with LED lighting - longer lifespan, lower power bills, healthier plants, less heat, the ability to discourage pests, and more. The very fact that these bulbs have significant advantages has seen them gradually replace their traditional counterparts. Here are a few benefits of LEDs;

1. They can be used in areas with extreme temperatures:

LED grow lights can be used even in places with extremely high temperatures or low temperatures like winters without changing the quality of light.

2. They can still run even with low voltage:

One challenge that many growers face is unexpected power fluctuations. This is especially true in storms and other extreme weather conditions. Now, in usual circumstances, traditional lighting systems or bulbs will start to flicker or produce dimmed light whenever there is a power fluctuation.

This is not the case with LED bulbs. These lighting systems will continue burning brightly even when the voltage is affected by a power fluctuation. In fact, with these bulbs, it would be totally impossible to detect a power fluctuation/low power supply.

Kind LED K-5 Series

Grow lights do not get any better than the Kind LED K-5 series. This line of LED lights has the features that pro-growers love.

K5 Series is UL listed and comprised of a mix of 3 & 5 Watt LED with a very wide-spread. The three primary ranges of the photosynthetic spectrum can be dimmed or intensified as individual units that provide plants with the ideal spectral ratios from the seedling stage right on to harvest.

LED tends to have a narrower range of coverage because they direct the light straight down, rather than outward. The K5 Series rectifies this with a large footprint that dwarfs most competing LEDs and even equals that of traditional grow lighting.

There are secondary optical lenses that can individually focus and intensify the output of any single diode.

These make the K-5 series great for commercial cannabis growers who are dealing with a dense growth habit.

The Kind website boasts that this series of grow lights will produce maximum yields while using only about half the electricity, producing far less heat than HID lighting. However, this is largely just a marketing ploy because all LED lights are far more efficient with cooler operating temperatures.

Full Spectrum Light of the Kind LED K5 XL1000

The spectrum of Kind K5 XL1000 LED grow light is fully customizable. This gives you the ability to adjust the spectrum to suit any growth stage of your plants. The 12-band spectrum of Kind K5 XL1000 LED growing light provides the complete spectrum of light that naturally comes from the sun.

This includes more Red, Blue, White, UV and IR light that your plants need with less Green and Yellow light that they don't need too much.

The Blue and Red heavy spectrum is better for vegetating compared to HPS lighting. But this is not the same for the flowering stage. However, this advanced color ratio increases the quality of buds and promotes THC production.

The Kind K5 XL1000 offers the unique ability to separately adjust the intensity of Red, Blue and White light according to the specific growth stage of your plants. The instruction manual is a great source to find out the best percentages for many different plants.

The fully customizable spectrum allows you to grow a variety of different plants under this LED grow light, which is something that most grow lights out there don't offer.

Energy Efficiency

The Kind K5 XL1000 LED grow light can easily replace a 1000 watt HID light. It will deliver the same brightness, but consumes only 630 watts of power, making it a highly efficient grow light.

Kind K5 XL1000 LED Grow Light Spectrum

The Kind K5 XL1000 LED uses a 12 band spectrum of white, blue, red, UV and IR. It does not, however, produce yellow and green light, which could be an added advantage for the proper nourishment of the plants. But, a dense red and blue light is what makes your plants grow fast and produce a good yield in the end.

The Kind K5 XL1000 LED grow light is best for both the veg and flowering states of your plants. The full spectrum lights can handle the growth of your plant from its seedling stage until it grows into its full state.

For seedlings, you should use 15% red and 30% blue and white lights. When the plant is in its vegetation state, the power is increased to 45-60% for the red, and 80-100% for the blue and white. When the plant is flowering, you should run all three lights at 100%. The Kind K5 XL1000 allows you to switch between modes via remote control.

PAR and Coverage Area

Coverage area is one of the crucial factors while buying the best LED grow light for your grow room. The coverage area is the area which your grow light covers your plant and supports its natural growth.

Although, the coverage area stated as 5 x 5  grow tent, we found it to be reduced to 4 x 4 feet when you are using the grow light for growing plants like marijuana or tomatoes, which have a high light requirement. This is something which was certainly not expected from Kind but it is true. The manufacturer should work on the coverage area of the grow light.

Configuration

The Kind K5 XL1000 LED comes with a mix of 3W and 5W diodes. The 5W diodes produce high heat and are intense. The heat dissipation is handled well. You would rarely need an exhaust fan for circulating the heat out of your grow room.

Heat Production

You cannot get a grow light that doesn't emit any heat; it is normal for lighting elements to produce heat. The main concern is whether the heat produced is too much for the room or can be easily handled. The Kind K5 XL1000 LED light produces 2100 BTU of heat. This is less than what HID or HPS grow lights produce.

Kind LED Veg and Flower Timer

Also included with the K5 Kind XL1000 is a nifty timer that can be switched through 8 different phases of plant growth cycles. Completely programmable to mimic the arc of the sun from gentle sunrise to fading evening sun. Plants have evolved to grasp this concept and it is about time lighting manufacturers caught up.

Measuring 3 inches by 26 inches by 20 inches this Kind LED holds as many as 320 3watt and 5watt LED light bulbs and a secondary high-intensity optical lens that helps inch its way through plant canopies for maximum light exposure, again helping your plants thrive indoors.

Although we stick with our typical UV eyewear protection, this Kind XL1000 came with its own protective shades which are another nice feature. Always protect your eyes when using LEDs. We can't stress this enough.

Kind K5 XL1000 Yields

For instance, starting in the seedling cycle we powered down the lights about fifteen percent less in the red spectrum and thirty percent less for white and blue spectrum.

Seedlings just don't need that much light. As the veg stage inevitably came, we powered up around 50% for red light and 100% for white and blue light spectrum. In the final stage of flowering, we simply set it to 100% power for all spectrum.

In conclusion, we highly recommend the Kind K5 XL1000 LED grow light for indoor gardeners from novice to expert. Simply put, with so much control with this LED you would be foolish not to consider it.

One of the biggest issues with cheap and inexpensive grow lights is the lack of control when your plant just needs more of a certain type of light. A simple veg/bloom switch sometimes just does not cut it.
