How To Choose The Right Cat Litter Boxes For Better Health

If you are a cat owner, then you already know that the biggest drawbacks of owning a feline is the kitty litter box. Most people don't like to clean them. Not only are they smelly, these boxes can be quite dusty too. So changing them can be hazardous in that you may catch some cat diseases in the process. So what should you do?

Luckily, people are very creative these days. So you can get hold of new litter box designs that make the task of changing cat litter much easier.

1. The self cleaning litter box

This type of waste box is ideal for families with many cats. Why? Because cats are clean creatures and they do not like to use dirty waste boxes. The rake removes soiled litter into a removable receptacle. This will keep the box fresh and clean. You can then get rid of the dirty litter simply by pulling out the receptacle containing the dirty litter and throwing it away..

2. The hooded kitty waste box

Such boxes provide privacy for more sensitive felines and they also help keep down litter dust. As long as you bother to change the box frequently to keep it smelling clean and fresh, the hooded box is ideal for your single kitty. There are also removable liners for these boxes so you don't have to wash them too frequently. You simply lift out the whole liner filled with soiled litter and dispose of it, then lay down a new liner, add fresh cat litter, and replace the lid

How do you teach your cat to use a litter box?

Actually, it is quite easy to teach your cat to use a cat waste box. Pay attention to the way you place the litter box. You must put in the right place and to keep it extremely clean. You should never place them next to your cat's sleeping or eating spots, as felines do their best to keep these areas clean.

Have the box in the right place already? Good, now it is time to teach your cat what the box is for. Begin by placing her in the box and raking your fingers through the clean litter. She may just decide to start using the box right away.

If so, praise her immediately. If your kitty simply jumps out, play with her for a few minutes and then place her back in the box. Repeat this procedure several times without overdoing it because you don't want to frustrate her.

After you kitty had eaten her meals, you should wait ten or fifteen minutes before placing her in the box. If she uses the box, praise her there and then. Also, when she is taking a nap, keep an eye on her so that you can take her to the litter box when she wakes up.

If your beloved feline does not use the litter box, do not scold her for her accidents. This will simply make her angry and frustrated. Instead, place the box in the spot where she most frequently has accidents and encourage her to use it.

Once your cat uses her waste box a few times, she should continue using it. If she stops using the box, it may that the box is dirty so make sure to keep it clean. If the litter box is not dirty, she may have a health problem, so be sure to consult your veterinarian.
