Is the lawyer terrible?

How are we behaving at the lawyer? What are we afraid of? What should we look out for?

Very often clients come to my office for the first time in their lives. They do not have to say it, and I know that they are at an attorney's for the first time after the way they enter the office, their behavior or the way they report on their case. Sometimes I have the impression that for some of my clients their first visit to an attorney's office is worse and more painful than the dentist. In these situations, when I see uncertainty, horror and fear, I try to tame such a client and make them feel good and comfortable in my office. I try to make him feel comfortable and comfortable in my office, so that he is not afraid to talk about his problem and ask all his questions. To make him come out satisfied with me. Usually I manage to do that because the client leaving the office smiles widely thanking for the advice or immediately ordering the case.

Where does such fear of a lawyer come from?

I think that probably from the times when there were only a few lawyers and a lot of clients. When a man going to an attorney had no choice but to do so, he was actually at the mercy of the honourable gentleman. When the attorney graciously looked at the case, and even sometimes he blamed the wretch coming for advice or with the case. Not only did the client not have the courage to ask all the questions, but he also had a feeling that he came at a bad time and was disturbing the honourable counsel. And then there was still a lot of money to be paid, and the man had a feeling that he did not quite know what for. So, the image of the patron - a terrible, harsh, inaccessible and graceful client who would take care of his case - became clear to the public. Unfortunately, I have to say that some attorneys still treat their clients this way today. Many times I have witnessed a situation where, in the opinion of the lawyer, the client asked a stupid question and met with a sharp, unpleasant reprimand. Of course I use the word some, not all. I don't want to generalise.

Sir, please remember that a lawyer is a person to help you. A person you should trust and feel confident in his presence. It can't be that you're afraid to ask for clarification, to ask a question or just to talk about the possibilities of solving a case. If you don't like this lawyer, if you feel bad about him or her, if he or she doesn't inspire you to trust him or her, please don't refer the case to her. Finish the meeting on advice and just leave the office. That's your right. There are so many attorneys at the moment, you're sure to find one that suits you. If you can't decide for yourself, you don't know who to go to, ask your friends or family. They will surely be able to tell you.

And finally, please don't be afraid of your lawyer. A lawyer is not terrible. An attorney is supposed to help you, and that should be your guiding principle when you stand in the doorway of a law firm to get legal assistance.
