Every day hundreds of goods move around the world to finally land on the store shelves. Few of us, however, wonder how the goods are secured during transport. One of the ways to protect them from tampering or theft are transport seals. More about them later in the article.
Transport seals are mechanisms used in transport to secure goods. They increase the chances that the goods will reach their recipient intact. Of course, there are situations when seals are broken during transport, thanks to the fact that each seal is marked with a different number, we know that someone manipulated the goods.
Seals are usually made of metal and plastics such as plastic. Their main feature is that they cannot be removed without destroying them. This is why they perform their function properly. Once the seal has been put on during loading, it should only be removed during unloading, after checking the numbers.
The transport seals can be divided into two:
- Plastic - this type of seals are equipped with a plastic or metal lock, which is placed on the so-called flag. The safety mechanism consists in threading a special plastic moustache, through a hole, after putting it in the place we want to secure.
Boltowa - one of the most frequently used container seals. Made of steel or strong plastic. Used both in water and land transport to secure containers with goods. To destroy this type of seal, use a cutter.
Sticker - seal used to protect e.g. packaging or cartons. Sticked in a place where it would be impossible to open the package without breaking it.
What is the use of transport seals?
First of all, you should load the goods in a place suitable for it. Then you can proceed to securing the goods. It consists in placing a seal in a place where the cargo can be opened. After the seal is put on, write down its number and write it down in the transport system or in another place so that it does not die. The driver should also carry documents with the seal numbers.
During unloading, check that the seal numbers match those in the documentation. This should be done by the driver and the person collecting the goods from us (e.g. the customer). If everything agrees, the seals can be broken and the goods can be unloaded to the place indicated.
