What are the main goals of periodontal treatment

The mouth appears to be a minor part of the body, but it is actually filled with complexity. That is why there are so many different kinds of doctors that work on the area in and around the mouth-- dentists, orthodontist, oral surgeons, periodontist, etc

A periodontist is a doctor that specifically treats issues affecting the gums and the bones of the mouth. They specialize in issues having to do with periodontal disease and also in the placement of dental implants.

Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge.

Periodontal diseases range from simple gum inflammation to serious disease resulting in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. If not treated, periodontal disease can be painful and unsightly and can cause teeth to become loose and fall out over time.

The most common form of periodontal treatment in Singapore disease includes gingivitis and periodontitis.

In periodontist, gums pull away from the teeth and form spaces (called "pockets") that become infected. If not treated, the bones, gums, and tissue that support the teeth are destroyed. The teeth may eventually become loose and have to be pulled out.

What are the common signs and symptoms of periodontal disease?

  1. Painful chewing.
  2. Loose teeth.
  3. Sensitive teeth.
  4. Bleeding gums when brushing.
  5. Red, swollen, puffy-looking, or tender gums.
  6. Abscesses on the gum.
  7. Pus secreting from between the teeth and gums.
  8. Receding gum line (gum recession).
  9. Persistent bad breath.

The main goal of periodontal treatment in Singapore is to control the bleeding gum infection, prevent disease progression, and return to good oral health. The number and types of treatment will vary, depending on the extent of the gum disease.

The periodontal treatments at Orchard Road are:-.

1) Scaling and Root Planning (Non-Surgical treatment).

The periodontist removes the plaque through a deep-cleaning method called scaling and root planing. Scaling is the scraping off the tartar from above and below the gumline. Root planning involves using special instruments to remove tough calculus and bacteria deposits along the root surfaces.

2) Gum surgery (surgical treatment).

If deep pockets and gum inflammation still remain after initial periodontal treatment at Orchard Road, a periodontist may perform gum surgery to remove residual tartar in deep pockets or to reduce the periodontal pocket and make it easier for you to keep the area clean. click more periodontics
