How To Prepare Your Leather Products

Caring Leather Hair on Bags is all full of style of coarse but at the same time you need to be very careful and respective to the quality and standards.

Before you can properly soften your leather products, you have to make sure that they are ready to receive the treatment. If you don’t prepare your leather properly, then the leather won’t be able to absorb the softeners properly which will be counter productive to what you are trying to do.

3 Natural Ways to Soften Leather

There are several natural ways to soften your leather products, if you don’t want to purchase expensive leather conditioners.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one way of naturally softening your leather products. Before you apply coconut oil to your products, it is important that you place them out in the sun for at least 10 minutes to soften them. After they are warmed by the sun, you can apply the coconut oil. To apply the oil, first wash your hands to make sure they are clean. Then take a small amount of oil and rub it into the leather using a circular motion. Work in small areas until your whole product is treated to ensure that the coconut oil is applied evenly. Using coconut oil will darken your leather, so it is important to try it out on a small part of your leather product before applying it to the whole thing.

Water

Water is another popular way to soften your leather products. To do this, prepare a spray bottle with clean water. Wipe your leather products off with a damp cloth to remove any dust or dirt. Then, spray the leather evenly so that the water seeps completely into the leather, but not so much water that it is saturated. After spraying the water, wipe the leather products off with a microfiber cloth to get any excess water off. All that is left to do after this is to let the leather dry naturally, and then treat it with a leather conditioner. One important thing to take note of when you are using water to soften your leather products, is that this will not work on any leather products that have been treated with a waterproofing agent.

Rubbing Alcohol and Petroleum Jelly

The final natural way to treat your leather products naturally is using rubbing alcohol and petroleum jelly. In order to do this, you have to make sure your products are clean like always. Then, use a cotton ball to apply the rubbing alcohol evenly to the surface of your product. This might take more than one application because rubbing alcohol will evaporate quickly. Then, once you have applied the rubbing alcohol to the whole surface, you can apply the petroleum jelly. Apply a liberal amount of petroleum jelly with your hands and allow it to soften the leather over time.
