David will answer this question in October 2020 when his biological drama “Mank,” which will follow Herman J. Mankiewicz and how he fought through his inner and outer struggles in order to achieve completion of Citizen Kane. “Mank” is an emotional project for Fincher as the film’s screenplay was written by his father, Jack Fincher, before his demise in the year 2003.

This year has also been the 79th anniversary of the film Citizen Kane. The classical film was released on May the 1st, 1941.

Contrary to what many might feel, David Fincher had not completely disappeared from the creative works. He has been involved in some of the finest series Netflix has made in the recent past that includes his involvement both as a director and producer with Internationally famed political thriller House of Cards. He also performed a similar role in the psychological drama and mega-hit series Mindhunter. He is also a producer of the animated series “Love, Death & Robots.”

Gary Oldman, Academy Award winner of The Darkest Hour and famous for his role as Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight trilogy, will play the lead role of Hernan J. Mankiewicz. Amanda Seyfried of In Time fame will play the role of actress Marion Davies. The highly talented ensemble supporting cast includes Lily Collins (actress of Mirror Mirror), Tuppence Middleton (Imitation Game), Charles Dance of Game of Thrones fame, Tom Pelphrey from Emmy Award-winning Netflix Thriller Ozark, and Tom Burke of The Souvenir fame, who will play the role of Oscar Welles.

Atticus Ross, the Academy Award winner for Social Network, has composed the soundtrack for the film. He will work alongside Trent Reznor. Reznor and Ross have been long time collaborators with Fincher.

Eric Messerschmidt, a cinematographer who won accolades for his collaboration with David Fincher on Mindhunter, has worked again with the director on the film.

Amanda Seyfried added insights on the passion Fincher had shown on the sets in an interview earlier this year. She said the director was following his usual habits and had filmed a set-piece at least “200 times.”

Eric Roth, who has produced the film, also said that the film is an “incredible piece.” He added that the film had been shot in a way that it should look like a 30s film and Fincher has worked hard to make sure that the film does look like a 30s film. The producer jokingly said that “only six people might see it,” but he alluded to the fact that the film has not been made with a view of commercial success. It’s an art film primarily to honor his father. The film which people might overlook, for now, but it will gain recognition in the coming years.

However, with a view on short-term success, Mank has been pitched as a potential Academy Award winner at 2021 awards.

Mank is one of the films that has been seen as a film that will be a familiar sight for nominees at several award functions, especially when we talk about Netflix products. “Mank” is alongside “Hillbilly Elegy” directed by another Academy Award Winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” from George C. Wolfe, which will star late Chadwick Boseman in his final film.

Da 5 Bloods from Spike Lee could also be a surprise winner at the Academy Awards, also featuring Boseman in a central character.
