Fees charged for an Electrical Engineering program in India

Electrical engineering is a discipline that is taken up by many students every year in India and abroad. Electricity is a major requirement in every field whether it is agriculture, defence manufacturing, communications, space exploration, etc. Electrical engineers are adept at designing and manufacturing electrical systems and their maintenance.

The students enrolled in an undergraduate program in electrical engineering are taught to design circuits, control systems and computer systems, capacitors, inductors, etc. The students are also taught the various aspects of power transmission, motors, transformers, electrical control, etc. The electrical engineering graduates can go in for a postgraduate degree in a field of their choice. Various specializations of electrical engineering include electromagnetic and remote sensing, power and energy systems, integrated circuits, communications, etc.

Fee Structure of Electrical Engineering College varies depending upon various factors including infrastructure and whether a particular institution is self or government funded.

The best institutions

Doubtless, the best engineering colleges to pursue a degree in electrical engineering are the IITs. IIT Kanpur, IIT BHU, IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Guwahati, IIT Patna, IIT Ropar, IIT Mandi, IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Kharagpur are considered to be the best electrical engineering colleges in India. The current fees for undergraduate courses in the IITs stand at Rs 200,000 per annum.

NIT Warangal, NIT Raipur, NIT Durgapur, NIT Rourkela, NIT Tiruchirapalli, NIT Srinagar, NIT Calicut and NIT Agartala are also considered to one of the best colleges for electrical engineering in India. The current tuition fees in the NITs is Rs 1,25,000 per annum.

Fee Structure of Electrical Engineering College run by state or central government is much less than the private colleges. However, the government-run IITs and NITs are expensive because these institutions occupy the numero uno status in India.

Some other institutions

When we discuss the Fee Structure of Electrical Engineering College in India it must be kept in mind that seats obtained through an entrance exam such as JEE costs much less than the ones secured under management quota.

College of Engineering, Pune is an autonomous engineering institution and is known for its excellent electrical engineering department. The total course fee for a B.Tech in electrical engineering which includes all the four years is approximately Rs 2.57 lakh.

Institute of Technology affiliated to the Nirma University of Science and Technolgy in Ahmedabad offers B.Tech programs in many engineering disciplines including electrical engineering. The number of seats available every year in the electrical engineering department of the college is 42. The college also offers M.Tech in various sub-branches of electrical engineering. This is a private university and total course fee is about Rs 4,66,000.

St Andrews Institute of Technology and Management, Gurgaon offers a B.Tech program in electrical engineering. The course fee per annum is Rs 80,000.

Verdict

Fee Structure of Electrical Engineering College in India may be very exorbitant in many private colleges but assured placements in reputed companies justify the cost in many cases. However, securing admission in a government aided college through a good JEE rank is always desirable.
