Safety practices that must be followed while using round slings

It is necessary to follow certain practices while using round slings for operation. Below are some safety practices mentioned that must be considered for the safe use of round slings.

Round slings have mostly common properties like strength, economy, convenience, load protection, etc. Slings are made up of either nylon or polyester material. Mostly two types of slings are used for lifting and rigging purposes. The eye to eye configuration slings and the endless polyester round slings. The endless polyester round slings for sale are mostly available as they are versatile and have an advantage over other types of slings as connection points can be rotated hence increasing the service life of the sling.

The polyester round slings are more economical than nylon slings. Another benefit of polyester slings is that many slings can be made simultaneously while in the case of nylon one sling can be made at a time.

These types of lifting products like round slings and webbing slings come in different capacities like webbing sling 3 ton, 10 ton, etc. The operator must choose the slings very carefully.  Here are some safety practices mentioned that must be taken care of to assure safety in the work area.

Safety practices that must be followed

  • The first prudent safety practice is to determine the load capacity of the sling that must be according to the operation. The operator can use tools like a sling calculator to determine the length and capacity of the sling, which is suitable based on the load or +object to be lifted.
  • The slings must be appropriately checked by the qualified individual after every use. The time to time inspection should be done to avoid defer in the task.
  • When round polyester slings are not in use they should be kept in an environmentally safe area that is dark, cool, and dry. It should be stored in a place that does not have exposure to any chemicals, mechanical or ultraviolet damage.
  • The use of a proper sling protector should be done by the operator to safeguard the sling as well as the load. The load which has sharp edges or corners can cut or damage the sling. Slings protector consists of pads, sleeves, or shields which will protect both loads and the sling.
  • Workers and operators who are involved in lifting and rigging work should follow the proper guidelines provided by the OSHA and ANSI/ ASME. The workers should be trained properly regarding sling and types of hitch to be used, safe lifting techniques, determination of load and sling capacity, the center of gravity identification, equipment maintenance, and care tips, etc.

Final thoughts

The quality of lifting and rigging equipment is very significant. The supplier must have renowned company equipment such as tiger products, CM lodestar products, and so forth. Round slings come in a very wide variety which makes them suitable for many tasks. The worker can choose a suitable sling based on the stipulation. It not only saves the effort of the worker but also reduces the overall operation cost.
