A candidate is required to compulsorily clear it so that they can practice residency/fellowship in the states.USMLE is divided into 3 parts and there are 3 exams that a person is required to pass.USMLE Step 1MCQs pattern involves the first and second-year subjects of MBBS which is including psychiatry and biostatistics.USMLE Step 2This is divided into two parts: CS (Clinical Skills) and CK (Clinical knowledge)CS- It is a practical exam in which the aspirants have to appear in the US only.
They get 12 cases and they have to clear them on their own with history and physical examination and have to type the patient notes with making a differential diagnosis and formulate an examination plan.CK-Again the MCQ pattern is here and it involves final year subjects with psychiatry and biostatistics.USMLE Step 3This is a Final stage where the candidates have to essentially get ready like the Step 2 CK.There are questions from Eye, ENT, and Dermatology.
However, the proportion of the same is low as compared to the other subjects.After the candidate’s Step1, CS and CK are cleared they can apply for residency and can give step 3.
But they all need to compulsorily must clear Step1, CS, and CK before they apply.There is no order as to when to come into view for the exam.
It is flexible but the aspirants can give Step3 only after they have successfully finished the rest and get approved by ECFMG.USMLE examination eligibility criteria are stepwise-Step-1, 2 CK & CS-The aspirants need to be enrolled officially in or a graduate of, a medical school outside the region listed into the world directory of medical school, as important USMLE requirements.
The eligibility requirements need to be fulfilled during the application and examination day.
