Ball bearings are regularly used in rotary movement applications. It comprises a row or multiple rows of balls between inner and outer raceways. These design concept elements produce less friction than the sliding parts. One ring is attached to the shaft, and it rotates the balls around the inner raceway. While the other ring remains stationary.

 Material: Generally, the ball bearings are made from steel or ceramic. Ceramic is usually used for challenging condition applications as vacuum or underwater. Ceramic dense is 40% less than steel. These bearings are different from others and do not need lubrication. Featuring hybrid bearings and ceramic balls are used to decrease friction. 

Self-alignment: The feature of it is an outer ring with a spherical raceway. It allows the bearings to tolerate angular misalignment for shaft deflections. These typical bearings have a lower load capacity than the other ball bearings. It is used in applications with the long shaft of transmissions or textile factories.

Assembly types

Ball bearings can be assembled in many ways, impacting the load capacity and performance of the bearing.

Conrad: This method putting the inner ring at the outer ring with an eccentrically single point contact. Balls are inserted opposite to the connection and distributed, which forces the ring into proper distribution. 

Usually, the cage is installed as well as maintain even ball distribution. A limited number of balls can insert in the assembly method, limiting the bearing's load capacity.

Slot fill: In this method, balls can slip into place, and it allows the number of balls to be inserted in higher radial load capacity. However, the lower axial load capacity notches the raceways. Lead to discontinuity in the rings that can impact on the strength of bearing. 

Relieved race: The inner ring's outer diameter or the inner diameter's outer ring is altered to produce a large space to insert the balls. It allows for any number of balls to be inserted. Bearings can only support the axial load, and with the assembly method, the direction of it away from the relieved race.

Fractured race: This ring completely allows for the ball insertion and then re-assembles. A pair of steel bands also support the fractured section during bearing alignment. This method also allows for any number of balls and supports the axial load in each direction.
