3 Major Types Of Threaded Fasteners You Can Find In The Market

Different types of fasteners that are used in industrial applications that you must know about. Here we are sharing the information about the most common types-

Fasteners are basically the mechanical components or parts that are used to join two or more two objects temporarily. While you can find a lot of others by which you can effectively join objects, some of which are brazing, adhesives, crimping, and welding, fasteners are the most preferred ones. This is because they can be easily detached or removed. Fasteners are mostly alloy steel, aluminum, bronze and stainless steel hardware. Threaded fasteners, in particular, are considered to be highly effective at joining multiple items as they come with an innovative threaded design. It can either have internal or external screw threads; these particular types of fasteners are easy to install as well as to remove.

Here, we are going to talk about 3 main types of fasteners that you can find on the market currently.

Screws: The most popular and common type of threaded fastener is the screw. Screws are cylindrical-shaped parts of metal that are wrapped around the sides as a threaded surface. On the top of the screw is the head. The head is used to drive the screw into an item or workpiece. If a screw consists of a Phillips's head, for instance, a Phillips head bit can be made to turn and install the screw when required. If a screw comes with a flat head, a flat head bit or screwdriver can be used.

Nuts: Second most commonly used type of threaded fastener after a screw is the nut. Comprising a circular metal piece with a threaded interior surface, these fasteners are used along with a bolt to join two or more two objects. The interior of a nut is threaded that can be used to connect to the threaded exteriors of a bolt. With the turning of the nut, it will drive up or down the bolt that will depend on the direction in which it is turned. Even though you can find some exceptions, most nuts come with a hexagonal exterior.

However, the interior will always be cylindrical, even though the exterior feature will be hexagonal-shaped, which can ease the installation process. Comprising 6 distinctive sides, hexagonal nuts are fairly easy to grip, which, in turn, allows workers to install or detach them with the least amount of effort.

Bolts: These are not to be confused with a screw as many would think otherwise. Bolts are used for joining two or more unthreaded items/objects; on the other hand, screws are used to join threaded.
