Andy Farrell names 37-man Irish team to participate in the summer tests

Andy Farrell hopes his players can seize the opportunity after recruiting a 37-man team in two summer tests against Japan and the United States.

James Ryan will be the team captain, which consists of 11 unlimited players, including Robert Baloucoune, Tom O'Toole, Nick Timoney (Ulster), Caolin Blade, Tom Daly, and Paul Boyle (Connacht).

Harry Byrne, Peter Dooley, and Ross Molony (Leinster) as well as Gavin Coombes and Fineen Wycherley (Munster) also got nods and were able to make their debut in Ireland.

Practiced internationals Johnny Sexton, Cian Healy, and Keith Earls were not selected by the Irish coach for the summer series, but Farrell is eager to see new faces appear.

Farrell said: "We now have two home games to watch. This is going to be a good challenge for the team. The Japanese team will play against the Sunwolves next weekend and play at Aviva Stadium. We played against the Lions the week before and we know their strength at the World Cup.

"We will gather as a team on June 22 and start preparing for these two games.

“I know players will be excited to make the most of this opportunity to wear a green jersey for the first time in 18 months and play for Aviva Stadium supporters.

Wales will play three summer tests as the Guinness Six Nations team announced a schedule for July

"As we increase the experience of other players, Johnny (Sexton), Cian (Healy), and Keith (Earl) will not participate in this window. This is a great opportunity to see how this team can reach this level."

The game against Japan on Saturday, July 3, starts at 1:00 PM and the game against the United States on Saturday, July 10 at 7:15 PM.

Both games are part of the government's outdoor pilot sporting event plan, which will return a limited number of supporters to Aviva Stadium.
