Apple recently made a huge announcement that the new Apple Podcast Subscriptions platform will be officially launched and will be launched next week. According to sources, Apple sent an email to podcasters yesterday in which they discussed how the subscription and channels in the Apple Podcasts app would go live on June 15th.

The original Apple plan was to start the Apple Podcasts subscription in May but was postponed to ensure the best experience for the creators and listeners. After experiencing several questions on the iOS 14.5 update, the Cupertino giant also promised to improve their Podcasts app.

Its unclear what caused the delay, but Apple Podcasts encountered a number of bugs and technical issues following the release of iOS 14.5. Missing episodes, missing show notes, and other issues were among them.

The email also contained links to resources where podcasters could learn about subscription best practices and guidelines. The company is also said to give podcasters advice on how to improve their subscriptions and channels. This is what Apple Podcasts Subscriptions will offer at launch.

Pricing for each subscription is set by the creators and is billed monthly by default. Creators can also provide annual billing, which subscribers can manage through their Apple ID account settings, which are now accessible through Listen Now. Listeners will also have access to free trials and sample episodes provided by the creators.

Up to six family members can share a subscription via Family Sharing.

On iOS 14.5, iPad 14.5, and macOS 11.3, listeners will be able to access the enhanced Search tab with Top Charts and categories, new show and episode pages with the Smart Play button, and Saved Episodes. Saved Episodes can also be found on watch OS 7.4 and tv OS 14.5. These software updates will be made available the following week.

For $19.99 (US) per year, creators in over 170 countries and regions can access the Apple Podcasters Program, which includes all of the tools required to offer premium subscriptions on Apple Podcasts. Creators can now sign up for the Apple Podcasters Program through Apple Podcasts Connect.

The program features over 2 million free shows and is available for free on iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Home Pod Mini, CarPlay, iTunes Windows, and other smart speakers and car systems. Apple Podcasts offers more than 2 million free shows.

In the face of competition from rivals such as Spotify, Apple’s premium podcasting service is an attempt to bolster its audio show offerings. Spotify announced its own paid podcast service in April, following Apple’s announcement of subscriptions and channels.

Although Apple’s podcasting platform continues to be the market leader, there are signs that Spotify may soon overtake it. Spotify has also been successful in convincing popular shows like “Armchair Expert” and “The Joe Rogan Experience” to become exclusive to its platform.
