Clever And Simple Gardening Tips To Save Time

From acquiring the right mulch to getting the right gardening equipment, gardening and landscaping are never easy. Anyone with a well-tended garden knows the extensive time that can be eaten up by gardening. There is no finish line in sight since this is something you will do throughout the year. From planting, weeding, pruning, mulching, composting and cutting back, these are tasks that will be part of your routine year-long.

There is a reason why retired people take up gardening and gardening can easily become a full-time job. There are also ways to lighten the load and make it easier. Gardening professionals have a lot of tricks they use to simplify the job. Here are a few gardening tips everyone should know.

Organize the tool shed

You will need a shed to store your tools. A pegboard wall keeps garden tools and accessories tidy. With the right shed, you can get into the garden and enjoy your work. Apart from storing your tools, you can get into your shed and have a nap. You can also listen to music as you eat your lunch in the garden. When you feel like you want to quench your thirst when doing your gardening work, you can fetch some water from your shed and continue with your chores.

Plant a container garden

You can save on watering time by using large pots, which will dry out more slowly. They also add more drama. You can place galvanized buckets within the flower beds and fill them up with tulip bulbs. This step can be taken further too and utilize dolly tubs or/and old cattle troughs filled with a succession of roses, cosmos and clematis.

Know what is good for the soil and plants

With proper cheap mulch, you can apply a variety of materials such as compost, leaves, grass, and even inorganic materials such as pebbles on top of your soil. This will reduce the rate of soil erosion and kill weeds. You will also reduce the amount of water needed to irrigate your garden.

Use low-maintenance plants

Do not add more work with plants that are very expensive to maintain. If you want a good smell in your garden, you can choose the perfumed phlox blue paradise plants which will give annual sweet peas a run. And it will not need any of the work that sweat peas demand.

Rely on companion plants

Insects and pests can cause problems and undo a lot of good work. It is therefore important to focus on prevention rather than trying to cure what has already happened. You can mix vegetables such as kales with your dahlia beds. They will not only look strong but are less likely to be affected by insects and pests because they are alone. On the other hand, when planted together in lines, they are likely to draw attention to themselves and get damaged by pests. You should also be very careful when you mulch to avoid applying materials that contain pests.
