Luke Skywalker wielded which Lightsaber Form?

Luke Skywalker wielded which Lightsaber Form?

Luke Skywalker is, without a doubt, the greatest Jedi of all time. Luke is unparalleled in skill and strength by both the Jedi who came before him and those who came after him in terms of his lightsaber prowess and his connection to the Living Force.

(That statement is made with the Legends continuity in mind, but it could easily apply to the New Canon as well.)

And, while we just highlighted how good Luke was with the Lightsaber, we know for a fact that, contrary to what we previously stated, lightsaber mastery is not only dependent on sheer talent.

However, Luke Skywalker is the first Jedi Knight in history to have received little to no training in the skill of Lightsaber combat. This was sole because he lacked access to any Jedi who could instruct him.

But, as we've seen in the movies, Luke can hold his own against Darth Vader with a Lightsaber (and many others in the Legends Canon). This implies that, despite his apparent lack of training, Luke possessed some proficiency with the Lightsaber.

Luke Skywalker learned how to use the Lightsaber from where?

Luke was the first of a new generation of Jedi, which meant his obligations went beyond fighting the Empire and restoring the Force's balance. It told Luke was also in charge of restoring the Jedi Order to keep the galaxy at peace.

The Jedi Order was known for educating Force Sensitive children on the ways of the Force and how to use a Lightsaber in combat efficiently. But a truth that is often overlooked is that Luke had no one to educate him because he was the first.

And, despite Yoda's efforts to teach Luke the Force's secrets throughout his time on Dagobah, Luke was unable to complete his training. As a result, Luke had little to no formal Lightsaber training when facing Darth Vader on Cloud City.

Despite Vader's remark that Obi-Wan had taught Luke effectively, Obi-Wan had only taught Luke how to hold a Lightsaber correctly.

But how did Luke stand a chance against Vader's decades of expertise and experience? His latent aptitude with the sword, like his father before him, is the answer. Luke's bloodline's raw talent allowed him to learn as he fought and adjusted to situations as they arose.

This means that Luke Skywalker's duel with Darth Vader was his severe first lesson in the art of Lightsaber combat. We can see Luke progress from being on the backfoot and retreating to match Vader blow for blow throughout the fight.

Luke could base his attacks on how Vader was fighting by researching Vader's moves and strikes throughout the conflict.

During Luke Skywalker's 'training,' what form did he learn?

Luke never had any formal training in the art of Lightsaber combat, as we have discussed. Our study discovered that he learned by fighting Darth Vader and adapted his Lightsaber combat style to his purposes.

This means Luke's Lightsaber combat style was essentially the same as Vader's, with minor differences. This means that we'll have to delve into Darth Vader's combat style to answer the question of which form Luke Skywalker learned first.

Darth Vader, then known as Anakin Skywalker, was trained in the Jedi Order. When the Clone Wars began, Anakin switched to Form V, Djem-So, and Shien, more balanced.

Due to prosthetic limbs and robotic replacements, Vader's motions were slower and tighter than Anakin's. This is what Luke took away from watching Vader fight with a lightsaber.

Luke eventually adopts Vader's form of Djem-So, which is more concise and slower. Nonetheless, Luke would employ this form of Djem-So in conjunction with his innate athletic abilities so that it wouldn't matter.

This meant that when Luke used Form V in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, his version of Djem-So was considerably closer to the original variation than Darth Vader's modified form and the performance he learned from.

This demonstrates that Luke began, mastered, and perfected both components of Form V, Djem-So, and Shien, during his time as a student, before his battle with Darth Vader and the Emperor on the Death Star.

But now that we know what forms he acquired at first let's look at what other forms he learned and perfected throughout his life.

Luke Skywalker had access to a variety of Lightsaber Forms.

Luke only learned Form V and the foundations of Form III, Soresu, according to the New Canon. Aside from that, he could have learned about the other Forms throughout his voyage around the galaxy before creating the New Jedi Order in Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Another idea suggests that Luke was taught Form I: Shii-Cho, which comprises the fundamentals of lightsaber battle and is the source of all other forms during his time on Dagobah.

Yoda may or may not have explained the other forms to him and demonstrated his mastery of Form IV: Ataru. Both of these considerations could explain why Luke would rather spin and flip around in a fight than stand his ground.

However, if we look beyond the New Canon and into Star Wars: Legends, Luke Skywalker is the single greatest swordsman in the galaxy's history. Fighting against him was said to be like fighting fifteen opponents at once.

It was safe to presume that the Luke of the Legends had not only learned but mastered all seven Lightsaber Forms and the Jar'Kai form, which was employed while dual-wielding two Lightsabers.

Luke Skywalker wielded which Lightsaber Form?

Luke was most frequently seen employing Form V against both Stormtroopers and Darth Vader throughout the Original Trilogy.

Apart from the New Canon, Luke could use any lightsaber battle form he chose, regardless of whether he enjoyed it or not. Aside from that, his motions were too quick in most common conditions to discern a clear pattern.
