Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is the most frequent plastic resin of polyester made from the mix of two monomers. Polyethylene terephthalate, also known as PET or PETE, is an extraordinary cost and energy efficient packaging material, which possesses properties of versatility, strength, and recyclability, thus being used in various end-use industries such as packaging and textile.

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) also called as poly(ethylene terephthalate), commonly abbreviated PET, PETE, or the obsolete PETP or PET-P, is the most frequent thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family and is used in fibres for clothing, containers for liquids and foods, and thermoforming for manufacturing, and in combination with glass fibre for engineering resins.

However, growing environmental pollution from the chemical and petrochemical industries is anticipated to be one of the key concerns for the PET market. Despite various environmental concerns of PET use, it's much favorable compared to steel, aluminum, glass and other materials employed for packaging, due to its high weight bearing capacity and light-weight, which often reduces the transportation cost by utilizing less space and weight.

PET (also abbreviated PETE) is short for polyethylene terephthalate, the chemical name for polyester. PET is just a clear, strong, and lightweight plastic that's widely employed for packaging foods and beverages, especially convenience-sized soft drinks, juices and water.

According to its processing and thermal history, polyethylene terephthalate may exist both being an amorphous and as a semi-crystalline polymer. The semicrystalline material might appear transparent or opaque and white depending on its crystal structure and particle size.

PET contains polymerized units of the monomer ethylene terephthalate, with repeating (C10H8O4) units. PET is commonly recycled, and has the quantity "1" as its resin identification code.While it's generally considered a “safe" plastic, and does not contain BPA, in the presence of heat it could leach antimony, a harmful metalloid, into food and beverages, which could cause vomiting, diarrhea and stomach ulcers.
