Every CTA serves a specific purpose. It’s like a warm, engaging invitation inserted at the end of a blog post, ad copy, social media post, or web page.

So if a CTA is just a simple, catchy phrase, why is it challenging to write?

We’re not saying it’s impossible to write one, only that you have to give it special attention to make sure you whip up a phrase that is effective and relevant to your target audience. Here are a few pointers you need to remember:

 

  • Don’t add more than one call to action. It distracts the audience from your initial instruction. It will also create MORE friction instead of erasing it!
  • Don’t ask for too much information too soon! This is a classic mistake you definitely want to avoid. You should be the one providing sufficient information for your audience!
  • Make your CTA stand out. Visually! What good is a catchy phrase when it’s not visible? Simple as that. Make sure it pops out from the background. Going for brighter colors is always a good fix!
  • If possible, go for buttons vs. links. CTA buttons perform 28% better than links. Need we say more?

 

  • Personalize your CTA buttons. While it’s tempting to just follow the generic route, being creative in your CTAs actually increases its performance by 202%!
