Healthcare’s ongoing battle with cybercrime

Cybercrime has been a major problem for every industry since the advent of the internet but no other industry has suffered more than the healthcare sector.

In recent years, healthcare has shown to be particularly susceptible to cyber attacks, with the most common threat being ransomware attacks.

In 2020, the Australian Cybersecurity Centre revealed a staggering 85% increase in cybercrime-related incidents in the Australian healthcare sector, showing just how vulnerable the healthcare industry is to cyber attacks.

With the current pandemic, hospitals are working overtime, allowing cybercriminals to prey on the sector’s desperation by using malicious techniques like ransomware attacks to lock up hospital systems.

Many hospitals have not improved their cybersecurity, so they fail to identify potential threats and fall victim to them, giving them no choice but to pay the attackers to get their systems running again.
