India’s Yoga tradition has taken the world by storm and the country is ready to present the first ever yoga university outside of India.
Admissions are set to begin in April and programs will be rolling out in August this year, university officials said.Launching a Global Reach for Yoga-Based EducationVivekananda Yoga University (VAYU), first established in Bangalore, is the first of its kind that launched its initial overseas campus in Los Angeles, California in the United States.
The initiative to open its branch in the US is to launch a global reach for yoga-based education.
It will help yoga teachers whose education has been limited to 200 to 500 hours of certificate programs to progress further into higher education.The decision to start a yoga university outside India came three months after VAYU was recognized by the Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education in California in 2019.
Under the leadership of Sree Sreenath, VAYU is set to facilitate joint programs and collaborative research with premier universities across the globe.The International Yoga Day, celebrated every June 21, which was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi back in 2014, is extremely popular all over the world and has provided a strong marketing opportunity for yoga.
Targeting International StudentsWith new courses on ancient topics such as yoga, India hopes to attract more international students by banking on their traditional knowledge and foray as a destination for foreign students.
