5 characteristics of a good projector

There are a lot of different factors to consider when choosing a projector for your business or home. The following article will give you 5 key characteristics that should be taken into account before making such an investment.

#1: Brightness and resolution

A good projector should emit as much brightness as possible, ideally reaching at least 2,000 lumens. If the projected image is not bright enough it cannot be seen clearly and make your audience tired and annoyed if they have to constantly squint in order to see what's on-screen.

The best way to address this problem is to make sure the projection space is not too dark; you can address this by adding lights close behind anyone who might be seated in front of the projector (so that their bodies reflect more light).

Another thing to consider is the resolution of your projector. A good general rule for this is that the higher the resolution, the better. Most projectors nowadays are capable of projecting 1080p video without too much trouble, but there are some companies making 4K projectors that can display your videos at 4096 x 2160 pixels!

#2: Price & affordability

Price can often be a deciding factor when choosing between different potential products; don't buy something you cannot afford! It should be noted that it is always possible to find products outside their price category (e.g.: buying cheap products which provide high quality), but one has to look very hard and should not expect too much in terms of features or ease of use. Additionally, if a product is below its price category then it might be a good idea to opt for a used one rather than a new one.

#3: Durability and ease of use

An often-overlooked characteristic when choosing a projector is durability. A durable product can have many years of life without breaking down or developing problems that require expensive repairs. One should also note that repair costs vary greatly from company to company, so some brands may cost more to maintain while others are cheaper.

Finally, the ease of use will determine how quickly you get your presentation up and running; the fewer buttons there are on the interface for controlling brightness/colour/resolution, etc., the less time someone needs to learn how to operate such functions (which means you can use the projector more often).

#4: Put some R&D into it

This point comes from a personal experience I had when trying out a new projector at work. After doing a few presentations using an older model, I saw that one of my colleagues brought in what looked like the same model… It turned out to have been bought from our company's e-store and cost nearly twice as much. Asking why she paid so much extra for this revealed that the "new" version did not have a fan inside it, making it about 2 times faster than its predecessor. That being said, you should always be on the lookout for new products with better features/specs/ease of use; there is no reason why you should buy an inferior product that only costs a little bit less.

#5: Availability

All companies have their ups and downs, but the best way to ensure that your projector will last for as long as possible is by purchasing one that is still being produced. If it's no longer being sold then there are chances that either the company has gone out of business or they've discontinued production of the items due to unsatisfactory sales, meaning you could be left with something which can't be repaired if anything goes wrong.

Purchasing a projector means committing your company/group/family etc. to use it very frequently, so make sure you can afford its price tag before making such an investment.
