How do you write a blog?

Creating a blog is easier than ever today - if you know how to do it and what to look out for. In this little blogging FAQ I try to answer the most common questions about how to create a blog? and how do I write a blog? To answer and thus to simplify the first steps on the way to your own online blog.

How do you create a blog?

There are several ways to create a blog. Which option is the right one for you depends entirely on the requirements you have on your future blog.

you can create a free blog on Blogger and get started right away. WordPress.com also offers the same . Advantages of the blog portals: they are free and you can start immediately after logging in. Disadvantages: the range of functions is limited, there are few design options and you don't have your own domain.

Variant B: if you are determined to run a blog permanently, you should get involved in a blog with  its own domain  (e.g. sebastian-hoehne.de). How do you set up the blog?

  • Title : give the blog a short and meaningful title that makes it clear what the topic is.
  • Design : choose a thematically appropriate design. There are numerous free themes for WordPress, including here , here or here .
  • Imprint : In any case, create a page with an imprint, e.g. with the imprint generator from e-recht 24.de. The imprint should be found in the navigation or at least linked in the footer.
  • Plugins : if technically possible, install important plugins and fundamentally adapt the blog for search engines - see 5 tips for starting a WordPress blog .
  • Search engines : create an account with Google Webmaster Tools and submit your page for indexing . This is not absolutely necessary, as Google will find the page on its own sooner or later, but the webmaster tools are very useful for optimizing your own blog and uncovering any problems.

How do I write a blog? (the first article)What is it about: A blogger should care that his articles are not just read , buy assignment online but also enjoy reading . So it can't hurt to follow a few principles of good and understandable writing. I personally use the books The 50 Tools for Good Writing by Rene J. Cappon and Journalistic Writing by Roy Peter Clark, both of which I can only recommend (see pictures on the right). A few basic rules:

  • Find a suitable headline : the headline is the figurehead of your article. A visitor usually decides on the basis of the headline and the first lines whether he will read the article or not. A tip that works for me: I write the article first, and then I think about the headline. If the article is already finished, it is usually much easier to find a suitable headline.
  • Structure your text: a good article should have a clearly defined topic that is clear from the headline. Longer texts should be divided into thematic sections with subheadings.
  • Be transparent : many readers would like to know whose article they are reading. This knowledge helps to better classify what you have read in your personal view of the world. So: make it clear in your blog and, if necessary, in your article who is writing.

Put emphasis on the beginning and the end of the article : an article is like a lecture - if the beginning and the end inspire, most people will remember the lecture positively. In the case of a blog article, it is also a good idea to encourage readers to actively participate, for example by writing their opinion on the topic they have read in the comments. My advice: fun and perseverance

No matter what topic the blog is about, it will take a while to reach a larger number of readers and thereby create some life and feedback. It is important that you shouldn't write to be read by as many people as possible, but because you enjoy it, have the right motivation and, for example, would like to share something with others.
