Hearing loss is the inability to hear sounds due to malfunction of some part of the ear. It can be either conductive or sensorineural . Sensorineural hearing loss occurs when there is damage to the inner ear structures or to the auditory nerve that connects these structures to the brain. Conductive hearing loss occurs when the sound waves are unable to reach the eardrum due to external or middle ear problems.
Hearing loss can be linked to a whole host of surprising health conditions including cognitive decline, dementia, brain tissue losses and depression which in turn leads to increased falls risk or early onset arthritis among others. The earlier you catch the problem the better chance there is for recovering from or adapting greatly to this condition with a simple treatment.
