Sage 100 Contractor Support - Update, Installation, Upgrade

If you’re installing Sage 100 Contractor or upgrading to the newest version, the hardware and system requirements below will provide a general guideline. Additional requirements may be necessary depending on your specific technology configuration, integrated 3rd party applications, and other factors that may require additional consideration.

Internet Access Required for Sage 100 Contractor

Certain Sage 100 Contractor features, such as printing or e-filing tax forms, submitting enhancement requests, accessing Help, or downloading periodic product or tax updates, all require Internet access. To take advantage of these features, please ensure any workstation or server that Sage 100 Contractor is installed on has access to the Internet.

During installation of Sage 100 Contractor, the computer serving as the Sage license server must be able to connect to the Internet to obtain licenses. Once installation is complete, you can check out license uses for each computer where Sage 100 Contractor is installed then disconnect the Sage license server from the Internet.

Note: A static Internet connection using a compatible web browser is required for Sage Construction Anywhere. See the Related Resources section for supported browsers.

Sage 100 Contractor Update:

During Sage 100 contactor update installation, you need to locate the option named Install Sage Advisor Update. You have to download the install the latest updates using Sage Advisor update. Follow the below steps:

  • Locate the icon named Sage Advisor update in the Windows system tray
  • Check and manually monitor the availability of the sage product
  • Determine the frequency and time that you need to set for verifying the updates
  • Choose a location on the system once downloaded updates
  • After this setup email notifications to notify you through email if updates are there
  • Check the update history regarding Sage programs
  • Check the Sage business care plan


Server & Client Workstation Hardware Requirements

Server hardware and network requirements will depend on your specific requirements, such as the number of users on your network or other programs that might use server resources, including firewalls, software applications, mail systems, and more.

That said, here is what we recommend as a set of minimum hardware requirements.

Supported Server Operating Systems

Following are supported operating systems (64 Bit Preferred):

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Essentials
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard

Note about domain controllers: Microsoft recommends against installing SQL Server on a domain controller, and does not support SQL Server on a read-only domain controller should you encounter any problems with this configuration.

Before installing to a domain controller, review “Installing Sage 100 Contractor 2016 version 20.4 and later to a domain controller” from the Related Resources section.

Tip: If the machine has active directory, it is a domain controller.

Not Recommended:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Standard (see the Important Note below)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Essentials

Important Note: Server 2012 Standard may be used to host SQL Server, License Administration, Database Administration, and the Sage databases, but the Sage 100 Contractor client cannot be used on Server 2012 Standard. Therefore, this operating system cannot be used to host the client in a terminal services or hosted cloud server environment.

Virtual servers: Sage 100 Contractor also supports virtual server environments. Please contact Accordant Company for additional guidance regarding virtual server configuration.

Supported SQL Server Versions (all editions):

With the release of Version 2016, Sage 100 Contractor can now run on Microsoft SQL Server.

Here are the currently-supported versions of SQL Server for Sage 100 Contractor 2018:

  • SQL Server 2016
  • SQL Server 2014
  • SQL Server 2012

Note: The Sage 100 Contractor installer will continue to offer to download & install Microsoft SQL Server Express 2014 for new installs. Backups created on Microsoft SQL Server 2014 can be restored on Microsoft SQL Server 2016, but it’s not backward compatible

Supported Client/Workstation Operating Systems (64 Bit Preferred)

  • Microsoft Windows 10 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 Enterprise
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

Notes:

Microsoft Windows 2003 Server and Microsoft Windows XP(all versions) are no longer supported operating systems because they do not support the .NET 4.5 framework.

Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2008, and Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard are no longer supported operating systems because they do not support the .NET 4.6.1 version.
