To do that, plan your time appropriately. Pomodoro technique insists to take 5-minute breaks every 25 minutes of working. After having 3 Pomodoros (3 sessions of working 25 minutes and resting 5 minutes), you will be taking a longer break, for example, 20 minutes.
Such an approach will not only increase your productivity but will also keep you more focused and you will be less distracted.
The main reason why it's counter-productive to mindlessly get distracted is that you allocate your focus, brain energy into things that have no benefits to you. For example, if you go on social media and entertain yourself, that still counts as a waste of brain energy. You will feel like it's harder to focus on your tasks. Instead, you should focus during your breaks on simply relaxing, easing your mind by taking your eyes on nature through the window, and so on.
This is a very simple tip, yet very effective. I highly encourage you to try it. You will be instantly happier about your productivity and how much you can achieve throughout the day.
