Method of Formation of Goodyear Welt Shoes

Shoes are an integral part of our daily routine. We should always think about the comfort before purchasing any shoe. Shoes not only make us look fashionable but are also important for the health of our foot. Goodyear welt shoes will take care of it. Goodyear welt is a piece of leather, rubber or plastic that covers the length of a shoe outsole. The machine used for its manufacture was invented by Charles Goodyear Jr in 1869. He was a frequent visitor to the factory of William J. Dudley, the founder of Johnston and Murphy, where sole stitching was performed.

Method of Construction

Goodyear welt creation includes stitching a welt on the upper surface and a canvas called as rib which is stitched to the insole of the shoe serves an attachment for the outsole or midsole. The gap enclosed within the welt is filled with cork or other materials such as foam. This will make it more comfortable. These shoes are constructed in machine rather than the old hand-welted method so that it can be sold in huge quantities.

These shoes have the upper part shaped over the last and is placed in order with the help of leather, linen or synthetic strip which is stitched to the inner and upper sole. These strips are called as welt. This will help to hold the material of the shoe firmly. A cavity is formed by the welt which is filled with a cork material. The sole of the shoe is attached to the welt by stitching or strong adhesive like contact cement or hide glue. This will prevent water penetration into the insole thus increasing the longevity of the shoes.

Conclusion

A goodyear welt shoes will add charm to your wardrobe. Make sure to purchase one and add style to your wardrobe.
