Windows Blinds and How To Fix It

Hey guys, welcome back and I've got one word for you, windows. Now, if you've got 'em, and I bet you do, this article's for you and I'm gonna make you a window ninja. So today is part two of my three-part series on window treatments and the first section, if you saw this article, was all about drapery. Well, today is all about cellular window blinds. Ooh, this is gonna rock your world. So I always say that window treatments are just like other decorative installed elements, just like cabinets or hardware or pendant lighting. They have to function, they have to solve a problem and they have to support your design style statement that you're trying to make. Within the category of blinds, there's a lot of different options to consider even just in each sub-category of Roman and roller. For instance, there's a flat Roman blind, there's a cascade Roman blind, there's a kind of what they call a rod Roman, or some people call it an Aventura which is a really good-looking piece. It just depends on what you're shooting for. There's a pleated Roman, there's something called a tulip, a little bit more transitional or traditional looking, as is the softened Roman, which is something that drops down in the center and pulls up, very pretty, but a little bit softer. And then there's also one that still falls into the Roman category called an American blind, almost completely traditional in its look. You often see them at stage drapery as the loops that are being pulled up. So those are just Roman blinds. Then within the pleated category of blinds, there are cellular blinds like silhouettes or the small cell ones, there's top-down bottom-up which means that they can not only drop from the top but they can also move up from the bottom, which is great if you have a specific privacy situation.

I use them all the time. And the third thing about cellular, especially the smaller ones, that's great is that they come in a couple of tones, they can be white on the outside and then color on the inside, but they also can come with liners which means that blackout cellular blinds can have a blackout aspect to them or a thermal aspect which is great for my people who live in like massive cold or raging hot deserts. Now fun factoid, Roman blinds are called Roman because they have kind of this classic appearance and they were originally used as a sun cover on the Roman Coliseum. So we have our little Roman friends to thank for that. So the next big category is roller blinds and so as the name implies, the fabric rolls up onto a big roll up at the top as opposed to the Roman blind, which folds up. So there's a couple of styles here that you want to be aware of. There are things like solar Roman blinds. Those are great for thermal conditions. Double Venetian style that has a little cellular blind so they look a little bit like a blind, they're very nice. Textured wovens and papers, I love those. And reeds and grasses, different solutions, different looks, all good. blinds, honestly guys, make the best solution for a very specific set of window categories. If you have any of the following, baseboard heaters, radiators under your windows, if you had bay windows, ooh it's super big for that. If you have kitchens or bathroom windows, most houses have at least one of those. And if you have any skylights, they're the only solution which is fantastic because now you can get them so that they are electronically controlled and that will save you a whole lot of agony. That’s all about today, see you guys in the next article.
