Flaxseed oil has the same source and processing as linseed oil, but linseed oil is used for industrial purposes.

Linseed oil is a type of oil that comes from linseed seeds.

Flax seeds are used to extract linseed oil. Linseed oil and flaxseed oil come from the same plant, but they are processed differently, with linseed oil being used for industrial reasons and flaxseed oil being suitable for human use. Flax is one of the oldest and most essential crops grown in cooler climes. These seeds are high in omega 3 fatty acids and dietary fiber, making them a nutritious addition to any diet. Linseed oil is extracted from flax seeds of both varieties and is yellow in colour.

Linseed Oil's Applications

  • It's used to make oil paints more fluid, glossy, and transparent.
  • It's used in putty as a window sealant that hardens in a few weeks and can be painted.
  • Cue shafts for billiards and pool are made of this material.
  • Linoleum is a type of floor covering made from this material.
  • Used by a luthier to recondition fretboards on string instruments such as guitars and mandolins.
