4 Things to do when your car trunk won’t open

Your car trunk has a similar locking mechanism as your car door locks. This does not mean it is the same. You should care for your car trunk lock the same as would care for your car door lock. This will ensure you do not find yourself in a situation where you get locked out of your car trunk. If you do find yourself in such a situation, please do not panic. There are solutions to this. In this post, we’ll see how.

Reasons why your car trunk won’t open

Though many of us say we are careful, there are high chances we may close the trunk with the car keys in it. Even if it takes a split second to realize what happened, it can be too late. Besides this, you can get locked out of your car if the locks fail to turn, or if the key fob isn’t working the way it should (This depends on the make of your car, besides other factors).

4 options you have when your car trunk won’t open

  1. Try to locate the missing keys- When you can’t access your car trunk, we can understand the panic that clouds your judgment. The trick here is to stay calm. Before you do things that you may regret later, double-check all your pockets and other possible places where you may have kept or forgotten your car keys. If you do manage to locate them, very well, but this is not the case for most of the time you cannot open the car trunk.
  2. Try to access the car- If you haven’t been able to open the car trunk, another way could be to access the trunk from the inside. Though this is not the case for many cars, this is an option you have nevertheless. Some older model cars allow you to break open the car trunk from inside. Though this is not a recommended option, you may do so especially if you are stranded in the middle of nowhere or are not in a position to call the lockout service. Some other cars have the trunk integrated with the interior of the car, in such a case, once you get access to the door, the problem is solved.
  3. Try to Do-It-Yourself- Though this isn’t recommended, there are ways you can gain access to your car’s trunk by DIY sans the help of an Auto Locksmith Service. Remember to be very cautious while you DIY; if things get awry, you will end up paying more than what was expected. You could watch videos online with a step-by-step tutorial of how things are to be done. If you do not have (or cannot find) the tools needed to DIY, it makes complete sense to avoid this and choose the next option.
  4. Call an emergency locksmith service- When things are beyond your control, it makes sense to call for an expert emergency locksmith service. Though he may take time to reach you, he would be able to solve your issue easily without much ado.

Though there is another option of calling your dealership, you need to understand that they aren’t locksmiths and would be able to help you mostly in case you have a higher version of a central car locking system that requires technical help. In most other cases, certified car locksmiths would be better suited to help you in every way possible. What’s more, they would be able to help you without causing much damage to your car. If a car locksmith isn’t available nearby, only then should you contact a relevant local car dealership who’d tow your car away and replace your car trunk’s lock in its entirety. Though this would be an expensive affair, it would solve the issue at hand.
