After kidney stone surgery, Ureteral stents may be put in your ureter to aid with healing and urine drainage. To avoid any potential issues, discuss a post-surgery plan with your doctor.
Your doctor will use a scope or an X-ray to put a stent in your ureter at the conclusion of your procedure. A normal adult stent is 22 to 30 centimetres long and extends from your kidney to your bladder, with a coil on each end to keep it in place. The ureter is dilated by the stent, which allows urine to travel from your kidney to your bladder more easily. Your doctor may clip a string to your leg or stomach and keep it linked to the stent to assist you remove it after surgery.
Before surgery, your doctor may install a stent to treat an infection, a stricture, or an obstruction caused by a stone, or to help expand a small ureter.
