Types Of Pneumatic Valves You Should Know

The main use of valves is to distribute, control, and direct the flow in any kind of structure. Pneumatic valves on the other hand act as a mediator between the source (compressor) and actuators in pneumatics. Pneumatic valves made by Pneumadyne or any other company can be air-operated, mechanical, or electromagnetic but they are classified further into 5 different types. Pneumatic valves are also called directional control valves and are classified further according to that only, let's have look:

Two-way, Two-Position Valves

These types of pneumatic valves contain two ports that are connected with a passage. The passage can be opened and closed according to the flow in the valve. Most of the valves contain an electrically activated solenoid that controls the direction of the flow. Two-way, two-position valves are the best when it comes to interlocking, isolating, and connecting multiple system parts.

Three-way, Three-Position Valves

These valves contain three ports that are joined through passages in the valve body. These valves exhaust only one outlet port to pressurize only a single-acting cylinder but can also be used in pairs to operate a double-acting cylinder. To operate at high speeds, people usually consider using paired three-way valves instead of four-way. Three-Way, Two-Position Valves are adept at saving compressed air in high cyclic applications.

Four-Way, Two-position Valves

These valves can have four or five ports with two to three positions. With two distinct flow paths in each position, these valves can easily actuate and reverse cylinders. The spool gives way to the flow coming from the pressure port and the other actuator port exhausts things out simultaneously.

Four-way, Three-Position Valves

Four-way, three-position valves are available both in four and five port designs. The most common center positions include all ports blocked and exhaust center. The two extreme positions of the four-port, four-way valve control actuator movement. This is because it’s not always necessary for every port to be used, and action is needed on others like in the case where making power adjustments to the actuator itself or needing a fixed position that can’t be moved away from for example when a certain type of product needs flowing through instead.

Spring Offset Pneumatic Valves

Spring Offset Pneumatic Valves are classified further according to the airflow direction. So, if you consider a two-way directional valve, you'll find that one side of the valve and the other will be blocked. In order to assume an open or closed position, an actuator moves the valve into the right position, and to release it, a spring releases the spool.

If you're planning to buy pneumatic valves, you must consider buying them from a reliable supplier. and one such supplier is DAS Services, Inc. They provide top-quality valves and other robotic components essential for the automation industry. Being active in the business for the past three decades, they first get personally involved with the customer's applications and then provide simple and cost-effective solutions according to the need. They have products from Pneumadyne USA which is one of the best companies that make valves.
