Ready Mix Concrete For Large Constructions And Special Concrete Mixes

Concrete has been used in construction for many many years now. Beginning with the Romans who used concrete for roads, structural purposes, building vaults and many other buildings. The still standing dome of the pantheon is a testament to the strength and durability of concrete. Even today, it is widely used in the field of construction for a variety of reasons. Many buildings big and small see the use of concrete for their construction. The versatility of concrete makes it suitable for any type of construction. The concrete mix designs can also be changed to suit any requirement. When it comes to large construction projects, the most commonly used is Ready Mix Concrete. Whether it is for structural, foundation or building purposes, ready mix concrete seems to be the first preference of many site engineers.

What Is Ready Mix Concrete?

Ready Mix concrete, quite simply refers to concrete that is premixed and delivered to the sites ready to be used. The concrete is typically mixed at the batch plant. Ready Mix concrete trucks are then used to transport the premixed concrete to the construction site. Usually, a rotating barrel drum is mounted on top of the truck or a trailer. This barrel drum keeps rotating or revolving in one direction from the batch plant until it arrives at the construction site. The inside of the drum is modelled after the Archimedes screw. This means that there is a spinning blade inside of the trucks that rotate in one direction during transit. When it is ready to be delivered the blad rotates in the opposite direction causing the concrete to be expelled from the trucks barrel drum.

What are the benefits of ready mix concrete?

Delivering large quantities of concrete is not the only benefit of Ready Mix Concrete. There are various benefits to Ready Mix Concrete and why it is commonly used in construction. A few of these benefits:

  • Delivering good quality concrete is made possible through ready mix concrete. The concrete mixed in batch plants is far superior to any other mix of concrete. Batch plants are typically well-controlled and usually also automated. This means that the raw material is controlled for quality and quantity. Moreover, the sequence at which each raw material is added is also automated and controlled. The result of this is a concrete mix that is thoroughly mixed, smooth and perfectly workable. This is one of the reasons why Ready Mix Concrete is used by sites that do not require specially mixed but require well-mixed concrete.
  • The delivery of special mixes is facilitated with these trucks. Special mixes mean concrete mixes that require admixtures of any kind. The addition of admixture is usually only done in batch plants. This is because admixtures need to be added in precise amounts according to the requirements on the site. The mix design that is required, along with the admixture that is needed is communicated by the site engineers. It is then made precisely as required in precise amounts at the bath plant and then it is delivered to the site using Ready Mix Concrete trucks.
