  • The famous Hindu saint Surdas was born here in 1478 and later Mirza Ghalib a world-renowned Urdu poet was born in 1797.
  • The remains of Emperor Akbar were laid in Sikandra which is in Agra. Sadly, the mausoleum was set on fire by Raja Ram Jat as he wanted to avenge the demise of his father Gokul. 
  • Agra made an appearance in a mystery novel that also features the famous character Sherlock Holmes. The name of the novel is Sign of the four written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. 
  • Freedom fighter Bhagat Singh used a bomb that was made in Agra to blow off the Indian Parliament which back then was known as the central Legislative Assembly. 



  • With some of the freedom fighters, Bhagat Singh went into hiding at the Noori Darwaza. 
  • Agra is very famous for its street food and fine rugs, people who visit Agra also end up purchasing handicrafts and footwear. 
  • Agra is the city that introduced “Petha’ to the world. The Indian sweet is of Mughal origin. 
  • St. John’s College, Agra was established in the year 1850 and is now a part of Agra University. The Agra University is known as Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University and is one of the oldest universities in India.
