How to choose a hoist for drywall: basic criteria

When cladding walls and especially ceilings with gypsum board, it is difficult to lift and hold the fragments of the material at height, because its sheets weigh from 7 to 9.5 kg. This requires a special mechanism - a hoist for drywall. To buy a ready-made device, it is necessary to know how to choose it, as the manufacture with your own hands is possible only with certain skills.

Elevator for drywall: the main functions

The main task of the cheap drywall lift - to facilitate the work of the master when cladding the ceiling with large sheets of gypsum plasterboard. With its help, he can cope with the work process alone, without an assistant, even if you need to erect a multilevel plasterboard ceiling. Given that the elevator lifts sheet to a height of 4.5 meters, this is sufficient for medium to high rooms.

The design consists of a rack placed on supports, with a special bar sliding out of it to the desired height. At the top is a fixed winch unit (automatic or mechanical). To put gypsum plasterboard sheets ribbed, on the sliding part there is a rotating frame with locks. The principle of operation in most cases is based on cable transmission.

However, this is not the only purpose - a homemade mechanism can help with other important work:

by installing a laser level on it, there is the possibility of accurate, high-quality marking of the ceiling, corners;

hoist is used to lift air conditioners, ventilation ducts, heavy chandeliers;

device helps in assembling frameworks of metal profiles for gypsum plaster boards in inaccessible places: it reliably fixes the parts while they are being fixed.

In addition, you can use the elevator to lift up roll coverings and mount a hammer drill on it, which is extremely useful when working at height.

Thanks to this simple device it is possible to safely fix the material without much difficulty, in addition, it saves a lot of installation time.

Types of devices

The specific use depends on the type of construction.

There are three main types:

Elevator with a vertically mounted rack, designed for the assembly of wall coverings and partition cladding.

Ceiling mechanism with a vertical table for fixing drywall on the ceiling.

Versatile design . It allows for single-handed assembly of drywall for both walls and ceilings. If necessary, you can change the angle with the turntable.

The factory mechanism has the following advantages:

one person can handle the simple operation;

the construction is not affected by dust and dirt;

lifts gypsum boards at different angles, vertically and horizontally;

The mechanism is prefabricated, has a low weight, in a compact form it is easy to transport.

If you want to clad a small room, the device is folded, due to which the bearing area is reduced. The supports are adjustable, so they can be used on uneven floors.

In some cases the jack-raiser is used. It is a construction consisting of two telescopic tubes, a piston rod for lifting, as well as a clamp and stops made of rubberized polymer. The equipment is equipped with a lever to disengage the rod lock. The spacer allows you to hold plasterboard vertically. Among the advantages of the construction are its low weight, movable base, and the ability to work with walls and ceilings.

The scope of use of a conventional design - these are living rooms, production halls, balconies and corridors. It is recommended to use such a model when the height of the ceilings is more than 3 meters.

How to choose?

Choosing the right technique, it always makes sense to get acquainted with the capabilities of the equipment.

In the first place are the following criteria:

The weight with which the mechanism works, it can be from 30 to 50 kg;

Given the size of the ceilings, you should ask about the height to which the delivery of plasterboard sheets is carried out.

It is necessary to know that such devices work only for lifting and can not move loads.

Not unimportant are the strength and thoroughness of the construction itself:

parts of the internal mechanism and accessories should be made of strong and durable materials, so it is always better to choose models made of steel without polymer additions;

reliable base configuration is a guarantee of stability of the elevator, in this respect the "H" shaped leg is considered to be the best.

Inexpensive models that lift drywall above 4 meters can be suitable for a normal home. If it is necessary to fix the coating in hard-to-reach areas, there will be a different direction of attachment, and the best option will be a jack-rail. It has a more complex design and therefore can be configured for a variety of tasks. However, such functional models are much more expensive than standard models.

In addition, it is necessary to take into account the auxiliary options that are not always needed in the installation of gypsum plasterboards. But if they are available, the price of the device increases significantly.

Since there are manual and electric models, it makes sense to choose electric equipment for large amounts of work. It helps to increase the speed of assembly, but it costs more. According to professionals, for occasional construction work it is better to choose manual structures, especially since they do not fail as often.

Self-made

Many people prefer to assemble the device with their own hands. However, this will require detailed drawings, on the basis of which it is realistic to mount an elevator of any type at home. Also, in addition to metal profiles, you will have to buy a winch and fasteners.

Professionals advise making a disposable version, which can later be easily adapted for other rooms. On the other hand, you can make a reusable design that will be suitable for different room heights.

Carefully compiled scheme - the key to quality assembly of the elevator, because it is on it will have to make the installation of support from metal profiles and other work.

Installation process:

The bases are made of metal profiles of 6x6 cm. A pair of sections are provided with supporting-swivel parts, the third profile is fixed to the post with a welding machine. For the convenience of movement equipped with rollers or casters.

For greater stability, three or four pipes are welded in the form of sawn feet.

Telescopic tripod or tripod is made of three cut profiles with a section size of 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 cm. To insert the stoppers, a perforation is made in them, which must coincide. The rod is fixed on the stand.

The upper part of the tripod is provided with clamps for fast fastening the stand. A metal "H" shaped frame is welded to the upper part of the tripod for further mounting of the withdrawable device.

The table is placed on the platform, and the side supports are additionally mounted to increase the rigidity of the construction. Lastly, the winch, blocks and ropes are attached.
