Internet Life Hacks You Should Know
Make the most out of your web browsing with some neat shortcuts that will help you save time. Discover more about it here.

Humanity has developed a virtual version of themselves by existing in cyberspace. Whether it’s social media, forums, online games, or work, you have effectively extended yourself to the network of interconnected computers and smart devices.

Browsing the web may be a part of your everyday life, but there are still some things you may not be familiar with while navigating the internet. Here are some life hacks you need to know while you are online:

Using incognito tabs

Everybody knows the internet isn’t exactly a safe place to store your information, but if you have enough internet knowledge, you will realize there is a way you can hide this from browsers and your device. An incognito tab is used if you don’t want certain sites and their data to be saved to your device and show up in your browser history.

Using incognito tabs is more than just for visiting explicit sites or looking for embarrassing details online. You can also browse incognito to avoid ads that are related to the confidential searches you made. For example, you want to surprise someone with a birthday gift or you are planning to pop the question to your lover and are looking for an engagement ring.

Searching incomplete phrases on Google

Have you ever listened to a song and liked it the first time, only to realize you don’t know the title or the singer of that song? How about that one movie line that spoke so much to you but can’t remember where you first heard it? Google can still help you with that.

Just type in the words you remember and replace the missing parts with an asterisk. For example, you can type ‘Excuse me while I * * *’ and the correct lyrics for ‘Purple Haze’ by Jimi Hendrix will show up: ‘Excuse me while I kiss the sky’ (this part of the song is misheard by most people which is why it’s safer if you search Google for the right words before singing it out loud).

Retrieving passwords using Google Chrome

If you use Google Chrome to login to your Gmail or social media or any other site that needs logging in, the browser will ask you if you want to save the password to your account in Chrome itself. It’s not a bad idea to consider saving passwords on Google Chrome, especially if you have multiple accounts on your device.

If you have forgotten one of your passwords but you have it saved on Google Chrome, go to ‘Settings’, then ‘Advanced’, ‘Passwords’, and ‘Manage passwords’. Click the ‘Saved Passwords’ list and select ‘Details’ to see your forgotten password.

Troubleshooting tips for PCs

If you are alone and encounter some minor problems with your computer, you can try going to tech forums online or call a friend for some help. But if there is still no response, you’d be tempted to go to your browser instead and ask how to solve your problem.

However, there is a better way to get helpful solutions to tech problems than just typing the question. Type the problem you have, then add the word ‘solved’ after it. That way, you can learn exactly how your problem can be addressed.

Even when web surfing is considered a hobby to most people, knowledge of internet shortcuts is yet to be taught to users. Hopefully, this list can help expand your internet knowledge and make your life easier while you are online.
