Several Students have asked me about conclusions for IELTS Writing Task 2. The main body paragraphs are much more important, so don’t worry too much about the conclusion; make it short, simple and fast. Here are some example conclusion phrases for different types of question:
1. Opinion Essay
For the reasons mentioned above, I believe that… (+ repeat your opinion).
2. Discussion Essay
Paradoxically, there are convincing arguments both for and against… (topic), but I believe that… (if the question asks for your opinion).
3. Advantages and Disadvantages Essay
Having said all this , I would argue that the benefits of… (topic) outweigh the drawbacks.
4. Problem and Solution Essay
In conclusion, it is clear that there are various reasons for… (topic), and steps need to be taken to tackle this problem.
5. Mixed and two part Essay:
For mixed and two part essay question it will be a general conclusion just summing up of entire essay.
Having said all this, It would not be incorrect to paradoxically conclude that ………..(Mention a summation of both parts of the essay .

1. Identify what is asked in the question – dissect the question well
Do you have to write for both sides or do you have to choose a side?
Do you have to provide answers to all the questions?
Do you have to convey only the advantages and disadvantages or do you have to give an opinion?
2. Brainstorm the main points.
Engage in Power writing . PLAN ,ORGANISE , WRITE CHECK FOR ERRORS AND RECTIFY THE ERRORS.
3. Construct your paragraphs.
Gather your supporting points for your central idea of each paragraph with examples.
4. Check your Task Response
- Check on the number of questions asked. Did you answer it all?
- Were you told to choose a side? Did you choose a side?
- Do all your paragraphs focus on one central topic/idea?
- Do these ideas have supporting points and answers?
Remember that you aren’t being assessed for your knowledge but your ability to put your thoughts through in an essay using the English Language. Although relevancy is one of the factors you’re assessed upon, it isn’t the only factor. Do not spend too much time on making the content perfect!
