Steel Flange - Types, Features, Application of Flanges | Metco Overseas

Different Types of Stainless Steel Flanges

Metco Overseas is one of the most leading Stainless Steel Flanges Manufacturers in Mumbai. A stainless steel flange is a forged or cast steel ring used to unite pipe sections mechanically or to connect pipe to a pressure vessel, pump, valve, or other piece of equipment. Metco overseas is one and only trusted Steel Flanges Manufacturers in Mumbai with Affordable prices.

In this article we will understand Different Types of Stainless Steel Flanges.

Features of Stainless Steel Flanges

Resistance to Corrosion

Corrosion is a crucial factor in any metal use. Around $9 billion is spent in the United States to deal with pipeline corrosion incidents. Metals are affected by rust, pollutants, and other environmental factors. As a result, choosing flanges that can withstand these circumstances is preferred. Stainless steel is a good choice due to its high corrosion resistance.

Durability

Flanges made of stainless steel are strong and can handle a lot of pressure. Although aluminium is a less expensive option, it cannot endure the same amount of tension.

Withstanding High Temperatures

Temperatures in industries may reach dangerously high levels. Stainless steel flange fittings, on the other hand, can endure the heat without deforming or warping. As a result, your system will never be jeopardised.

Types of Stainless Steel Flanges

Here are some of the stainless steel flanges you might encounter on the market, as well as some information about them.

  1. SLIP-ON FLANGES: A slip-on flange is a ring that is fitted over the pipe’s end (with or without a hub). The flange face extends far enough from the pipe’s end to allow a welded bead to be applied to the inner diameter. Slip-on flanges, as their name implies, are flanges that slip over a pipe.
  2. WELD NECK FLANGES: A weld neck flange is also known as a tapered hub flange or a high-neck flange. The weld neck flange has a neck that allows the pipe tension to be appropriately transferred. It also aids in reducing the pressure that builds up at the flange’s bottom. It can be used in pipelines that operate at low or high temperatures and can sustain a lot of pressure.
  3. SOCKET WELD FLANGES: Socket-weld pipe flanges are commonly used on smaller diameter high-pressure pipes. These pipe flanges are joined by inserting the pipe into the socket end and applying fillet weld around the top.
  4. BLIND FLANGES: Blind flanges are used to blank off the ends of pressure vessel openings, valves, and pipes and are manufactured without a bore. Blind flanges, which are considerably larger, are the most overstressed flange types in terms of bolt loading and internal pressure.
  5. LAP JOINT FLANGES: When the pipe is composed of an expensive material, lap joint flanges are useful. For example, because the flanges do not come into touch with the substance in the pipe, a carbon steel flange can be added to a stainless steel pipe system.
  6. THREADED FLANGES: Threaded flanges have taper pipe threads according to ASME B1. 20.1 in their bore and can be utilised in piping systems where welding of the flange on to the pipe is not possible, such as in extremely explosive locations where welding could pose a risk.

Application of Stainless Steel Flanges

Petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, heat exchangers, and power generation are just a few of the industries that use alloy stainless steel flanges.

Weld Neck Flanges are generally used in high-pressure applications with a wider temperature range, from sub-zero to above-zero.
