Importance of Expressed Emotions for Caregivers.

There are many reasons for mental illness, the cold be psychological, biological, or social. While it is hard to treat the psychological and biological part effectively, you can do your best to ensure that the social part is managed well. Humans are social animals and they cannot live in isolation. Similarly, the social environment plays an important role in the mental health of an individual.

2)     Hostility: In this, the patient who is mentally ill is rejected by other family members.

3)     Emotional overinvolvement: It represents a range of factors that include very high emotional response, self-sacrificing behaviour, overprotectiveness, and intrusive.


What can a family do in such a situation?

This would include a long-term strategy and plan, which can be divided into four approaches. These include the following:


Psychoeducation

It involves educating the family regarding the illness. However, as it has taken various factors that led to the cause. The first part is to ensure relapse prevention.


Family intervention

It includes family therapy which is done under the guidance of an expert mental health professional. It deals with improving the family dynamics and encouraging healthy feelings amongst the family members.


Communication skill-building

If you find the family is acting dysfunctional, then improving the pattern of communication is important. Communication plays an important role in managing the emotions in the family.

Getting diagnosed as a mental patient is not the end of life. With the combined effort of the family, the society, and the medical services, it could be managed so that the patient can live a very healthy and happy life.
