Help poor children and families in India?

Livelihood is the single most important part of any human’s life to be able to have food, shelter, and clothing. What happens when that is robbed off? Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many were pushed into poverty in India. It was estimated that 150-199 million additional people would fall into poverty at the end of 2021. This is why it is important for those with a more stable livelihood to donate for livelihood through our online donation platform and help the needy people. Every penny you donate for livelihood today is a hope for tomorrow’s children and families.

Mohammad (38) lives in a small one-room space with his wife Ayesha (35), and two children Rehan (14) studying in grade nine, and Naaz (9) studying in grade four. Naaz is a sponsored child of World Vision India and attends the remedial education classes set up in her community.

Mohammad had a passion for business from a young age. He preferred being his own boss and started many small ventures over the past 12 years. His most recent one being an egg stall, where he dishes out a variety of preparations to hungry officegoers and other workers.

In all his years as a businessman, the COVID-19 lockdown was probably one of his most challenging experiences. Not being able to work and earn a daily income to support his family was a source of great worry. ‘’We were stressed because we had no money to pay rent, the light bill, school fees, and so many things,’’ says Mohammad.

To add to his woes, his wife fell sick at the start of the first lockdown. He had to go far and wide in search of treatment and ended up taking a loan of almost Rs.50,000 to pay for all the medical expenses.

Scores of people like Mohammad lost their daily wage businesses or work and are struggling to make ends meet and look after their children. Donate for livelihood today, help the needy people by supporting them through our online donation platform.

At that time, Mohammad couldn’t even entertain the idea of going back to his village because he didn’t have the money. In Mumbai, he could at least do odd jobs and survive.

To help communities during this difficult time, World Vision India provided cash transfers of Rs. 1000 for ration support and food baskets to the most vulnerable families so that children could get the nutrition they needed. Additionally, since Mohammad was experienced in running businesses, he received a cash transfer of Rs. 5,000 to re-start his egg stall.

Let’s come together to donate for livelihood and help the needy people through World Vision India’s online donation platform hopetoshine.com.

He tells us, ‘’In July 2020, we got Rs.5,000 through World Vision. With that money, we could get all the materials needed. We bought eggs, a large tava (frying pan) and a gas cylinder. Earlier I used a stove which ran on charcoal. So I had to keep fanning it while cooking. But the gas cylinder is better, and makes cooking faster,’’ says Mohammad with a smile.

Once the first lockdown got over, Mohammad re-started his business. Things slowly started to look up, for daily wage earners like himself, although gradually. When the second wave and another lockdown came, Mohammad felt slightly more prepared and was able to manage better.

All said and done, Mohammad is still motivated to be a businessman. He came to Dharavi at the age of 17 and has stayed here ever since. He worked hard, got married and had a family. With the money he saves from his business, he is able to send his children to school and can give them three meals a day.

Naaz’s dream is to become a teacher. She loves to draw and spends her free time at home doing arts and craft. Rehan is unsure about what he wants to do, but later shyly says he wants to become a doctor. Both Mohammad and Ayesha just want to ensure that their kids study well and are able to lead a good life. ‘’Above all I want them to be good human beings,’’ says Ayesha.

Children like Naaz and Rehan can go back to school and fulfill their dreams when you donate for livelihood through our online donation platform and help the needy people

Mohammad is grateful to World Vision for coming to his aid during this time. He says, ‘’Because of you, a poor person is getting help. I hope you can help more people as well. By giving, your wealth will only increase,’’ says Mohammad with a smile.

There are thousands of families like Mohammad who are living on the last penny due to the pandemic and also do not have food to eat on some days. Your generous support to help the needy people through our online donation platform will change their lives, like Mohammad’s life was changed through our small help. Donate for livelihood.
