Generation Z is Transforming Direct Selling

The success of the direct selling industry can be attributed to its ability to adapt and evolve. Direct sellers have gone from traveling door-to-door with samples, to hawking their wares through Facebook posts. Generation Z is at the forefront of this change as they make up over a quarter of the global population. Generation Z  gives importance to direct selling strategies and has a vast understanding of technology that gives them an edge in this industry and offers new opportunities for companies who are looking to connect with this demographic. These young adults use social media on a daily basis which helps them gain information about brands they're interested in faster than any other generation. 


Gen Zers value flexibility and the ability to operate at their own pace and with their own ideas. Because of its ability to deliver, direct selling will become the obvious choice, but only if it is done in a way that consumers enjoy. According to a Nielsen survey, 54 percent of Gen Zers want to start their own business, while 62 percent of Gen Zers said flexible job options were their top priority in another survey performed by Bankrate and YouGov Plc. Of all the generations, Generation Z boasts the largest ethnic and racial diversity.


Generation Z anticipates using high-tech devices in every part of their lives. They are also interested in humanitarian and social justice concerns and cherish authentic, one-on-one interactions. They have a natural understanding of the brand's concept. Generation Z is also more dedicated to career development than any other generation before them. What makes the direct selling industry unique, and successful is that it is closely aligned with Gen Z's motivations, talents, and personal characteristics. According to a DSA study, 91 percent of Gen Zers want to start their own company. Because of their attitude toward business ownership and alignment with our Core Principles, now is the ideal time for the direct selling industry to attract Gen Zs' attention and demonstrate that we are a values-based organization.
