What Are the Advantages and Uses Of Nitrogen Gas?

The main advantages of using Nitrogen Gas

Nitrogen Gas Cylinder has been used in recent times in the filling of automobile tires, where it causes relative consistency of the volume of a tire as the temperature changes, and is used for the filling of racing cars and planes because of its inert nature, lack of moisture, and lack of oxidizing quantities. Nitrogen Cylinder is highly relevant to electronics, being used as carrier gas to provide general protection from impurities and oxidation in semiconductors and soldering processes, while cold and liquid nitrogen are used as cooling media during ambient tests on electronics.

The lack of reactivity of nitrogen is Nitrogen’s greatest quality, and therefore, the gas is used for the prevention of both slow and rapid oxidation. This chemical inactivity makes Nitrogen the ideal liquid for industrial processes, and the inertness of Nitrogen is the key reason why it is used so widely.

Nitrogen is also used as a process gas, along with other gases, to reduce carbonization and nitriding. Unlike carbon dioxide, which is also used to pressurize, nitrogen has a low affinity to liquid hydrocarbons, so builds up and remains trapped within gas caps. If oxygen in a contained amount of air is consumed, either by burning a candle in it or confining an animal in it, much of the oxygen is converted into carbon dioxide gas, which mixes with nitrogen gases that are in the air. The gas is mostly used as a non-hazardous atmosphere, any time oxygen in air would present fire, explosion, or oxidizing hazards.

Highly explosive chemical plants may be made safer by using nitrogen gas to remove oxygen from the processing equipment. Nitrogen is used in manufacturing processes to provide an inert atmosphere, preventing oxidation which could cause electrical faults. Metal manufacturers use nitrogen to prevent oxidation when new metals are formed. Nitrogen (and nitrogen mixed with CO2 and oxygen) is used on transportation trucks and in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) to prolong the shelf-life of packaged foods, by preventing oxidation, mould, insect infestation, and moisture migration.

Nitrous oxide is used for concentration and reduction in liquid samples, as well as used in the manufacture of fertilizers, nitric acid, nylon, dyes, and explosives. Because nitrogen is inert as a gas, nitrogen gas can be optimized to use for applications such as food processing, beverages and brewing industries, as well as for oil and gas extraction.
