Electronic Shelf Label Software Modules Show the Customer the Current Product Price on Electronic Paper or a liquid Crystal Display

Retailers use an electronic shelf label (ESL) system to display product pricing on shelves. When a price is changed under the control of a central server, the product pricing is automatically updated. Electronic display modules are typically attached to the front edge of retail shelving.

To show the current product price to the customer, ESL modules use electronic paper (E-paper) or liquid-crystal display (LCD). E-paper is commonly used on Electronic Shelf Label because it provides a sharp display and full graphic imaging while requiring no power to retain an image. A communication network enables the price display to be automatically updated whenever the price of a product changes. This communication network is what truly distinguishes ESL and makes it a viable solution. Wireless communication must provide adequate range, speed, battery life, and dependability. Wireless communication methods include radio, infrared, and even visible light communication. At the moment, the ESL is heavily skewed toward radio frequency-based ESL solutions with additional integrations.
