Vitamin D strengthens the immune system

It stimulates the immune system by stimulating certain cells to produce antiviral peptides called cathelicidins and defensins. These peptides are important components of the body's innate immune response and are essential in fighting infections. The study also found that vitamin D3 supplements were more effective than D2 in enhancing cathelicidin production in humans.


Research shows that low vitamin D levels are associated with an increased risk of many diseases. Zinc protects and repairs DNA strands

Retinoic acid regulates gene expression in immune cells


Retinoic acid, a derivative of vitamin A, plays an important role in the adaptive immune response of mucosal epithelia. Unfortunately, retinoids are poorly detected by standard methods. To overcome this problem, researchers have synthesized novel bio-orthogonal retinoid-based probes that are structurally indistinguishable from vitamin A. These probes contain a fluorogenic dye and a functional group that targets specific genes.


RA has been shown to promote the development of Th2-type T cells by suppressing T-bet expression. The effects of retinoic acid on Th17 cells were first observed in mice exposed to a vitamin A-deficient diet. However, in human studies, vitamin A stimulates the expression of Th2-cell markers.
