Application Process

You will be qualified for permanent resident status when two years have passed since you submitted a valid Partner visa application in Australia. Your connection must match the criteria outlined above in order for a permanent visa to be granted.

You must present to the Department of Home Affairs proof of your qualifying for permanent residency at this phase of the application procedure (DHA). Your temporary Partner visa evidence must show that you have maintained a true and exclusive relationship with your de facto partner or spouse.

Your permanent visa may be issued to you while you are within or outside of Australia.

PLEASE NOTE: Depending on how quickly you (and your supporter, if appropriate) give us the appropriate supporting documentation, we anticipate that it may require several weeks to produce and lodge the essential proof and accompanying submissions.

The DHA's process time standards of service and a variety of additional considerations, such as the intricacy of your case, assessed risk concerns, and processing priorities, all influence how long it takes to complete your application.
