When Was the Last Time Brazil Won the World Cup?

The country was last crowned World Cup champions in 1950, 1998, and 2006. These were the years of the most success for the national team, but when was the last time Brazil won the Cup? Here are some facts to help answer this question. The Brazilians have won World Cups four times in the last six decades. Their last win came in 1958. This is a very impressive feat. However, Brazil must improve its defense of the title.

1998

The defending champions Brazil made it to the final of the 1998 World Cup with a 2-1 win over England. Argentina had won the previous World Cup in 1970, and showed that they were a dangerous team. However, a talented Dutch team was also a major threat. This team was gunning for their first World Cup victory. The final was played in front of a record seventy-five thousand fans, and Said Belqola was the referee.

2006

The 2006 FIFA World Cup was the 18th FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international association football world championship tournament. It was held from 9 June to 9 July 2006 in Germany. Germany was awarded the right to host the 2006 World Cup in July 2000. Brazil won the tournament by defeating Germany 1-0 in the final. It was Germany's first World Cup victory, and the tournament was attended by a record-breaking 144 million spectators.

2014

The 2014 FIFA World Cup was held in Brazil, which hosted the tournament for the first time since 1950. The tournament was held in various stadiums across the country and drew a lot of international attention. Brazil was the only country to bid for the tournament, and its delegation gave a 30-minute presentation to the executive committee in Zurich. They were awarded the World Cup for hosting the 2014 finals. Here are some interesting facts about Brazil's World Cup-winning team.

1950

The World Cup was first held in South America in 1950, and it was hosted by Brazil, the country that hosts the most prestigious tournament on earth. This tournament was held in the Maracana stadium, the largest stadium in the world, which held over 200,000 people. Uruguay's win inspired a new Spanish noun, "The Maracanazo."

1970

It's hard to believe it was only forty years ago that Brazil won the World Cup for the first time. In the 1970 World Cup, they defeated Italy in the final and won the Jules Rimet Trophy. The trophy weighed over three kilograms and was presented to the Brazilian Football Association after the tournament. Unfortunately, that trophy was stolen in 1983. Despite this, the trophy is still on display in the Brazilian Football Association's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

1954

The tournament was hosted by Brazil. Uruguay won the tournament and Brazil was runner-up. Other nations in the tournament included Sweden, Spain, and Denmark. This was the last time Brazil won the World Cup. In addition to Brazil, England made their first appearance at the World Cup. The tournament was also the first to be televised. This tournament was also the only FIFA World Cup that didn't feature a one-game final.

1976

The last time Brazil won the World Cup was in 1976, when the team won the tournament in Germany. This tournament is known as the World Cup, as it is the most prestigious football tournament in the world. The tournament has a lot of history and is a huge event for Brazil. The team was the first to win the World Cup, and the victory over the Czechoslovakia was their first ever. Unfortunately for them, they went down 1-0 to their opponents in the first half, but came back and won the game 4-1. The next match was against England, and Zagallo's men were looking at an uphill task as England were the reigning champions.

1978

Although it wasn't the first time that Brazil had won the World Cup, this was the last time the Brazilians did so. The 1978 tournament took place in Argentina. The format was similar to the 1974 World Cup with two group phases and no knockout stages. The tournament was controversial due to the Argentines' passage to the final. The Argentines beat Peru 6-0 in the final match of the second phase to eliminate Brazil on goal difference. West Germany, which had been eliminated, also failed to beat Italy or Holland and were defeated by Austria due to a Berti Vogts' own goal.

1990

The 1990 World Cup was one of the lowest-scoring world tournaments, with only 115 goals scored in the tournament, and was hosted by Italy. The tournament began with 32 nations and ended with 15. The finals included 15 countries from all over the world, with the United States and Great Britain missing. In addition to Brazil and Argentina, Portugal reached the semi-finals and Costa Rica made its debut. Geoff Hurst scored the first world cup 2022 livestream hat trick and Gary Lineker won the Golden Boot.
